My driver's airbag went off on my 06 when I hit the tire in Knoxville, and the truck was fixed. $12,454 damage, but NOT totaled.

We're here to support you in whatever decision you make... a 2nd gen would allow you to transfer pretty much all mods over...

I'm surprised you don't have any injuries yourself. Seems like a pretty hard impact. Neck and spine OK?

Yes it is you can "buy back" the vehicle from the ins company and then put it back on the road with a total loss title.

Yeah no one was hurt. I had a passenger in the vehicle as well. The impact itself wasn't really bad at all. We were both more shocked when the airbags deployed in every direction imaginable. Its a good thing I didn't drive off the road. I was driving blind when they deployed.

the truck still looks in good shape, could probably check out some junkyards for air bag parts , I would think most all years 2nd gens have a lot of interchangeable parts

Early 2nd gens don't have as many air bags, but most parts are interchangeable. Front end and air bags are major differences.

if the truck is considered totaled the adjuster looks at the truck and cuts you a check and you are responsible to get rid of the truck/wreck. this happened to me

That's a shame. I even try to be cautious when working on my truck, they got those air bags everywhere you look, srs, srs, srs. They even got one under the steering wheel, I guess that's to protect my junk. I don't really care for air bags myself, drove for 30 years without air bags, seat belt or shoulder harness. Totaled many a vehicle and I only got 2 scars. These vehicles nowadays turn into a bubble if you bump them. There're good for kids if the kid is big enough that they don't kill em, that's about it.

No if they did that then that isn't the proper way. When an ins company totals a vehicle they essentially buy the vehicle from you thus you turn over the title. They then in turn take the vehicle and sell it at auction to be repaired scrapped or melted down. You have to buy it back usually at scrap yard buying cost.
