I've heard that more and more people are becoming victim to theft of their dashcam(s) via window "smash and grab".

Have you experienced this problem? Sadly, is it becoming a more prevalent problem? Is there any steps one can take to minimize the chance of becoming a victim?

    Thank you,

    Ed

Put a sticker on the window. This Tacoma is protected by a bad ass farmer with a silenced AR, they won’t even hear you leave this earth.

Buy the owl cam. They replace it for free if it’s stolen and the video is sent to your phone so that you can give it to police.

Do you mean where the prison is, where the inmates are released from and/or where their soon to be ex-wives live? Thanks but no thanks.

Oh, by the way, I don't live in the City of Sacramento proper.

    :)

If you saw what they look like, you'd understand why.

I am off of 80 in Rocklin. If you watch the Nextdoor app, there does seem to be a lot trucks getting stolen or broken into, but they all seem to be older trucks (maybe because of alarms and anti-theft features?). I haven't heard of anyone specifically going for a dashcam though. Usually people say they left stuff in the truck, like tools, etc.

Who the hell breaks into a car to steal what is likely a cheaper, generic dashcam? On the other hand, like my older brother says, it's not their window.

Mount a hidden camera in the bed to record them stealing your dash cam .

The whole problem with all this, is that cops just don't care about these crimes. They aren't going to solve your car break in, even if you hand them video surveillance on a platter. Too many other serious crimes to deal with, and criminals know it, too. Better just have a removable camera you take with you, or install the 3M security film that requires destroying the whole window to get in.

Man, I sure am glad that I live in a small Southern town. Yeah, we have our own problems, but smash and grab opportunists are so low on the scale... I don't even think about them. I'm not stupid, so I do try to keep enticing things out of sight, but still.

Sorta' like the tail gate thefts. I'd never even heard of that until I saw it on this forum.

Until the remains of said smashed window end up flopping over onto your paint. Never underestimate the North American tweeker and what'll he or she will do to steal $.27 out of your ashtray and some used gym shorts

Like my brother said, it's not their window. Best thing you can do is be a low profile target. We just got a roommate's car keyed, for no reason at all, by the usual young simian "youths" in our neighborhood. Just installed 2 Ring Spotlight/Siren cameras, $300. I never went around smashing windows or keying cars when I was 17.

I had the Toyota dealer uninstall the $640Cdn dash cam (there's an attempted theft for ya') that they tried to sell me as part of a dealer installed option, then I bought the truck.

I would take my Blackvue out and throw it in my wifes purse. My issue was the sd card would track everywhere I drove. Thats what I was worried about. They could easily find out where you live.
