Some of those were one occurrence or not even Toyota's fault (exploding windshields), these trucks have always had squeaky leaf springs not new, 2014-15's also had low fluid, the ratio to failing diffs to non is pretty small and guess what also seen on 2nd gens some guy with a 15 just had his replaced twice. Guess what its mass produced bud, there will be issues with some, there are also a SHIT TON others that have had no issues. Whining and bitching about seats too hard, or the same thing over and over again and then just saying well its a shit truck is not the answer nor constructive, that's the take away, no one is illegitamizing your issues, but because you and others on here have them dosent mean they all do or that the truck sucks, etc. And so many that are die hard 2nd gen fans seem to forget the host of issues those trucks had too. Go to any other forum and you'll see the F150 guys with $50k trucks having manufacturing defects.

Spend another $25-30k and you can get a truck with little to no issues and all the power you can ask for.

Same here. Unlike most people, I knew what I was buying. I don't expect my cheap Tacoma to compare to a King Ranch or High country 3/4 ton.

Funny how quickly some folks here transition from being critical of the product to defensive of the product once they buy it.

See I have a piece of shit 2015 2nd gen, and I get tad frustrated but I know I have a warranty for a reason. I realize shit will break even on something brand new. This isn't a fucking Maserati it's a damn mid size truck. No defensive issues here, I just realize crying over a machine is fucking stupid

Warranty is great until they won't apply it.... see leaf springs and the various other issues where dealer claims "normal characteristic"

I got told "normal characteristic" this morning about my 0-20 take off vibration. I said "ok thanks" and went on about my way because if shit does break I have proof it was looked at. No need to continue bitching about it

Just because it was looked at doesn't necessarily mean it was fixed or will be fixed??? What's your point? And yeah I guess what if 10 people complain about it to corporate or to the dealer it probably won't be given the time of day. If 50000 people call corporate and raise hell about it you can bet they will be looking into it

Yes, it will have all of those things. In a small percentage of vehicles. Doesn't mean it's a bad vehicle in general. If there are a high percentage of issues, then sure, but I don't think we have access to that data. Trying to determine quality by reading an enthusiast forum is not an accurate method.

In a new product there will be problems that aren't caught before production. They should be minimized, but it's just going to happen. Anyone remember Toyota getting pounded by Consumer Reports over the new Tundra problems? Up to that point Toyota was a "golden" manufacturer that could get a "recommend" on a new product without reliability data (I think Honda and Subaru were the other two). They got booted off the list over the Tundra (I assume they are back now, it's been a while). The 2nd gens had all sorts of issues; they certainly weren't perfect.

Some issues you list are production issues, some are design issues. They will get them worked out. We took a risk buying the first year. When you roll the dice, sometimes it doesn't work out. Doesn't mean that Toyota shouldn't make it right, but I don't think it means the truck is a bad value over all units sold.

I will say that Toyota screwed the pooch shipping the Tacoma with the crappy firmware. Everyone bagged on it (including reviewers) and it gives the impression the engine is a bad match for a truck. I don't know if they were rushing to market or what, but that has really cost them a lot of good will.

    Two more comments:
    - U joints are not greased from the zerk when they are assembled. There is an air volume in the middle that must be filled the first time you use the zerk. I don't think it's accurate to say they are under-greased. I did have mine checked, and they did take grease, but I don't think it was necessary. I'll certainly accept input if my understanding is wrong.

    - I'm not convinced that the QDR on a Mercedes or RR is better than a Tacoma. You don't see a lot of 20 year old Mercedes or RR driving around.

Or it will have some of these things in a high percentage of the vehicles.

I didn't say my truck was problem free. It was at the dealershipfor 2 days for them to check my transmission fluid. The dealership I bought it from gave me zero pushback when I told them what was going on with my truck. I think there are a lot of shitty dealerships out there that some people have been unlucky to have to deal with but that isn't the trucks fault.

I do feel bad that some have had issues that they cannot get resolved. You have to admit that some of the "issues" that have been brought up on this forum have been pretty nit picky though for a 30-40 thousand dollar vehicles.

    Yeah.
Well, I for one am glad people are buying this truck. It helps Toyota work out the kinks. There are ALWAYS issues with new models, regardless of the manufacturer. I personally never buy the first year of a new model (I ran out and bought a 2004 as soon as I heard they were updating it) just for this reason, and if I did, I would expect some minor issues. For the most part, the complaints I have seen are reasonable, but they are all minor issues that Toyota does address for the most part. The important issues typically get addressed by about the 3rd year of production.

Even with all the complaints, my next truck will still be a Tacoma. Just not a 2016.

I've seen some minor issues and some not so minor issues on this forum and on my own truck. So I'm curious when people say "nit picky" or "minor issues" what are we putting into this category?
