Hey everybody this is my first post on TW..its awesome that their is a forum like this for the Taco Nation!

So here is my issue..I have a 05 4x4 taco with King CO's in the front with TC UCA's and stock LCAs..im currently running some 17" helos and 265/70/17's in a AT tire..I just went in to get some new wheels and meat and when I told the guy I wanted to go 285/75/17 we discovered that I was really close to clipping the body mount in the rear of the wheel well. He was confused that I wouldnt be able to run a 285 because he said he installs 285's on stock tacomas. Has anyone else had this issue? Im wondering if its because I have stock LCA's but I dont think that TC would design a UCA which caused users to be limited to a 265/70/17 tire..

Also just for reference when im speaking of clipping im talking about when the tire is turned all the way outward (as in making a left turn) the diagonal tire tread is about 1/2" from clipping the body mount. Il throw up some pics when I get a chance..I just started my TW account today. :)

You didnt say if you had a lift or not but from what I have read many times on here, if the tire guy says he is putting 285s on a stock Taco with no rubbing, he is bullshitting you. :jerkoff: They are going to rub somewhere.

Hey, the CO's come with an adjustable lift, 2.5" if you extend the springs all the way..the rear has a deaver add a leaf so it sits level..id imagine its 2" because i dont have the CO's maxxed out..And I know you usually have to trim the fender line sheet metal but its sitting awkwardly back and wants to rub the body mount..

285's will rub on a stock setup, if not on the cab mount, on the stock UCA. If not going straight, then while turning. I would not trust your installer too much.

On tacoma's with lifts and aftermarket UCA's you should be able to run 285's with minor rubbing, some people don't have problems with rubbing while driving on the street but in off-road situations where the suspensions flexes, you WILL rub.

Things to check/do to avoid this:
-What wheels are you running, specifically what backspace? 4.5" backspacing is recommended.
    -Fender trimming.
    -Cab mount chop.
-Adjust the height of your coil overs.

Welcome to TW. This, along with other stuff you'll probably ask next have been covered before, spend some time exploring the site and learn to use the search function. Some members go crazy when they read reposts.

Your UCA adds 2 deg of caster by moving the rear mounting pivot point back which moves the whole wheel back. Get an alignment with 3.5 deg caster, do a cab mount chop, hammer your pinch weld and clearance your fender plastic up 9" to include removing that lower lip of plastic under the bolt there. Then you will have perfect fit.

Funny... feels like I covered this like ten times already and we still have this issue come up... of yeah I did cover this ten times already. :/

Until they wheel... or they have tires 32" or less. Please, please do not listen to these lies about 33" tires fitting without rubbing. I was SO pissed when I mounted up my 285s and could not even get out the driveway to turn my truck around without ripping off my fenders. Was SO pissed the first time I totally stuffed my rear and ripped off my rear driver's side fender flare from negative arch pushing my wheel forward. The only people who don't rub have 32"not 33" tires and DO NOT wheel their trucks.

Give me a Tacoma with 33" tires and no trimming for an hour and I will return it with hundreds of dollars in damage created by its own suspension travel and tire rubbing. Who cares if it tubs "a little" on road? Your first full stuff with 80% turn and you tear something off.

OP... you have been warned. My 285s 33s not 32s rubbed POST cab mount chop until I maxed my caster. You can avoid compression rubbing by not turning or avoiding suspension compression but you WILL tear shit up eventually. You WILL lose plastic. You WILL have the pinch weld cut your tire. You have been warned.

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
    Lol this ^
In the OP you said 285/75/17, thats closer to a 34" tire. I run 285/70/17 and i rubbed the cab mount/body mount during normal driving (no flex) with 2.5" of lift. Wheel offset has alot to do with it, less offset you are more likely to rub on the cab mount. Caster also has something to do with it, and adding UCAs with extra positive caster doesn't actually always move the tire foward in the wheel well, it just changes the angle and can move the tire back in the wheel well if to much positive caster is added at the UCA. Some people actually rub worse when they go from stock UCAs to aftermatket with 2* of caster.

Well all trucks must be different because I run 33's and wheel the shit out of my truck. Haven't ripped anything off yet. I don't rub on anything. Never done a cab mount chop. All I've done was trimmed my fender flares.

    Well then spacers RULE!!!

J/K yea that makes since. I can't wait to get me some fox coil overs. So when I go to coil overs I can't run 33's? I was also planing getting a pair of TC lower control arms?

Hey thanks for the advice everybody, definitely a wealth of knowledge out there. I definitely searched through the threads before I posted but i couldnt find anything with TC ucas and king COs, i could see that the TC ucas set the wheel back a little bit compared to stock ucas so i knew it had something to do with it. Anything wrong with grinding that cab mount down and inch or so and tack welding a plate back on their to add strength back?

Yall listen to this guy! I have 285/75/16 with caster set at 3.5 and wheels with 4 backspacing. I have only trimmed the corners of my stock fenders and I wheel my truck pretty hard and don't rub anything. It's all about proper backspacing and caster. Get these right and trimming will be very minimal

I understand I have spacer as a lift but when I installed the TC UCA they tried my caster at 2.7. I couldn't even turn my tires hardly. Made them put 3.5 caster in I don't hit anything. I also have a 4" backspace rim. The 3.5 caster is the trick.
