My 15 had issues I wasn't pleased with either. The annoying Kazoo noise from cross winds, clunking front end over speed bumps and dips, also when starting my ac on a hot Arizona day it would make a grinding noise for a second. All problems that I repeatedly got told was normal by Toyota's fine mechanics.

I really enjoy my truck. It seems that at 7000 miles, I'm not noticing anything about the tranny that bothers me. It is actually driving and shifting more the way I would expect it to than it did when I first got it. One thing you should consider...

Most people come to these forums for 2 reasons.

1- To ask about problems they think they are having and to get free advice
2- To show off their ride.

It is a biased percentage of the overall population of people who have bought these trucks. Biased to both extremes (Happiness or Problems). There are thousands (Maybe hundreds of thousands) of people that have these trucks who are just content with what they have. Not overly critical or especially giddy like most people here. (Not that I have any issues with anyone here... I enjoy this forum)

Who cares if there is a recall? They are required to fix it before you pick it up.

Just get it! It's a much better truck than the 2nd gen.

Love mine. Coming from a 2000 Tundra it was like discovering car technology for the first time. New truck is same size as the old one! Miss the V8, but just drive with ECT on all the time.

I was ready to buy 3rd gen, wanted to buy MY2016, the issues (primarily steering wheel vibration) made me wait. Still unfixed for MY2017, said, screw that, and bought a used 2nd gen and I am very happy.

Paying nearly $40k to be screwed around by a shitty corp and their pigheaded dealers? "Normal characteristic of the vehicle" being the standard answer? No, thanks.

Reliability aside, the 3rd gen is bit of a let down. Look at the stupid long nose and the overhang. You could fit a beer cooler in front of the radiator. Pedestrian safety bullshit, my ass.

Slushbox people seem to hate. 3.5L engine is not a truck engine. But based on my test drives when paire dwith manual transmission, the combo was fine, however, better than 2nd gen. However I like the 4.0L/slushbox combo in the 2nd gen well enough.

But who cares if they can't make a non-vibrating truck?

You'll read mostly negative comments or comments regarding issues in forums like this, just cause this is where people turn for help. If every vehicle had a forum this active and popular you'd have second thoughts about any vehicle.

Frankly, I find it amazing that the leaking diff is not a "normal characteristics of the vehicle". Weird.

Bullshit. I am a member of several forums and I own (have owned) several different vehicles with their fair share of problems, and have not seen a single one where a new vehicle had such numerous design and/or manufacturing issues that are DENIED and or handled poorly by the manufacturer. Hood ungluing, exhaust related vibrations, drivetrain vibrations, headunit grelimns, diff issues, etc.

If you want one buy one now, use the recall as leverage to get a better deal., also numbers came out and sales are down.. so it's a great time to buy and get a deal I bet.

Bought mine about 5 weeks ago, probably could have saved a couple grand buying now.!:)$$

The best time for deals is in a time of doubt, buy one!

    Like, so many.
I love mine. The transmission does annoy me sometimes. I'm nearing 15,000 miles and have had no issues.

Wondering why so many 2nd gen owners feel the need to post critical comments in the 3rd gen threads. They don't own one, so why would they even care? I can guess but ... I looked at some user profiles, many 2nd gen owners seem to be only commenting in the 3rd gen threads. Weird.

Had my OR almost a year with nearly 14K miles. Because of issues with my truck (hard starting, leaking diff, howling diff), I would not buy again. Seemed like the ideal vehicle for me on paper, but the execution has been bad. I don't trust it. Likely will move it before the driveline warranty is up. Should have bought the Tundra I was considering...

I have my TRD Sport 6MT for over a year. I had a 15 Sport 6 MT. There were many things about the 15 I didn't like. No heated mirror. Seems minor until your are scraping them at 10 pm after getting out of work. I wanted a more modern instrument cluster. That made me switch to a 16. I am happier but is it perfect. I have a couple of annoyances. The head unit will always connect perfectly to my wife's phone but mine I have to cycle the Bluetooth off. I have tried everything for that. That is my biggest complaint. Do I ever regret it never. Especially this past winter and I had to get to work in the blizzard. I left my house with 26 inches of snow and my truck handled the storm with no problems even with the less than ideal Toyo tires. Those couple of days really drove home what an awesome truck this has been for me.
