Speculation that my rear diff is howling this loud? I have isolated the noise to the rear diff. What would you speculate it to be?

Owned the 2017 sport - 3 weeks - If I had to do it all over again I would of test driven it over night or for a very LONG distance. Ride is VERY STIFF / bumpy.
Everything else I can live with so far. I bought it because it has best reliability and resale. - didn't like Honda, Nissan, or Colorado - I am a past Chevy owner and nothing but problems, so I went with the Taco

If you understand how a double overdrive transmission works, you will eliminate about half the complaints from this board.

If you ignore the complaints form second gen owners on a truck they don't even own, you will eliminate another 25% of the complaints.

I own a '17 DCSBOR auto in SSM. It's not perfect, but I legitimately have no issues or complaints.

It is very stiff---the OR is smoother.

Sports have stiffer suspension I think? Sr5 and off roads I hear ride smoother.

People saying it's very stiff... I came from a Civic Si. THAT was stiff. This Taco is so nice compared to that. OP just drive one. Test drive the different models.

I don't know, it's not my truck and I have not experienced your issue. But, if it were my truck and I just found out about a potential leaking rear diff, plus I was hearing a sound from that general direction, I'd check the dang oil in it!

    EDIT: could be this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/solved-howling-noise-between-35-45.410480/

Gear (ring/pinion) backlash not set correctly is my guess.

I had mine (2017dclb) for a few weeks and had 380 miles on it and took a 1,500 mile trip back home to pick up some stuff. I was past the break in period coming back so I loaded the truck up and was on the upper and of the weight limit! Truck did great no regrets. Loaded it did want to shift more but that can be expected.

We had a ranger at work - we call it the "Danger-Ranger" POS, but I am sure it hasn't had the easiest life

Just like with anything man you're taking a risk, I personally would buy my truck all over again I absolutely love it and have not had any problems at 20k miles so far.
but from what you're seeing the negative comments are usually louder than the positive ones.

People who are happy with their truck aren't going out of their way to express that on forums like the people who are unhappy racing to the computer to talk about how much they hate their truck.

But ultimately choice is yours man, not theirs.

I enjoy driving my truck, but I'm a little disappointed that in 7,000 miles it has the following issues:

    -Diff howl
    -Diff oil seepage
-Engine chirp - guessing fuel pump
    -Squeaky clutch pedal
    -Sticky clutch pedal when cold
-Gas pedal buzzing above 2800 RPM (doesn't bother me, but still not right)
    -Looming threat of CPS failure
-Sagging leaf springs with just a few hundred pounds in the bed.

Still have 7 years left on the warranty, but I hate taking my truck in to get these things serviced.
