Truck was at the dealer today for some intermittent starting issues. They applied a new ECU update. Service manager described it as a "bulletin" and not a TSB, so unfortunately I don't have a TSB number to share.

Paperwork describes it as: "Checked for TSBS, found calibration update for intermittent no start with crank sensor issue. Performed update calibration."

They told me this fix came out here in Canada just a few weeks ago, on the 20th of December. Apparently this fix was originally for Lexus, but now also applies for the Taco. Timing of release may be different in other markets - probably earlier in the US.

They also told me that the system didn't show any TSBs initially, but they can also scan/check individual components (ECU, I'm guessing), and once they scanned something, their computers told them the equivalent Lexus part had an update, and that update also applied to my Taco. Confusing, but that's what it is.

    FYI

In my case,: apply brakes, press start button, dash and head unit computers turn on, but there's no crank. Waiting indefinitely does not change anything. Air temperature does not play a role. Usually either starts in neutral right away, or starts in park after running through park->neutral->park->neutral a couple dozen times. They suspected the neutral safety switch, but checked it out today and apparently it's fine. Apparently it's also an hour long job just to take it off? That sounds weird, but that's what I was told.

Part of earlier diagnostics turned up that when the issue does occur (which is very rare), starter relay reads 8v (on the input, I think), but should be reading higher (9v-12v if I remember correctly).

You describe a delay - I've noticed that, too. In quite a few instances, actually. Sometimes I'll press the start button and the truck doesn't respond for a second, maybe second and a half, and then starts normally.

Last night I had my intermittent starting problem. Tried in park, nothing. Tried in neutral, nothing. Park again, nothing. Back and fourth twenty times, trying to start after each gear shift, it finally starts, then dies nearly instantly. Then the same thing again. Shift back and fourth a few more times, started normally and remained running.

// edit - BTW, it sounds like you and I are running the same Diode Dynamics harness, and probably the same Hylux 35W HIDs? For what it's worth, my issue started long before I installed these HIDs.

thanks for all that. yes, same exact setup. great kit, isn't it?

anyway, i think a little delay started before the HID install, but it was very minor so I'm not sure. I'll be watching for anything now, especially related to the cps.
