That seems to be the general consensus. Meanwhile the Toyota Corp drama drags on. We were able to prove that the error code that fired this same time last year (P062D13) is the same one that fired this time, which means 1) the issue was never properly addressed by Toyota and 2) the issue originally occurred and was never fixed while still under warranty. We've made 6 attempts to reach our case manager now and she's only called us back once to tell us she can't get ahold of anyone at the dealer where our truck is...we proved she's lying because I contacted the service advisor AND the service manager at the dealer, neither of which had been contacted by Toyota Corp (I even gave them the service advisor's personal cell that he gave us...he has answered every one of our calls). At any rate, we called again today to complain and said we wanted a different case manager. If this isn't resolved this week, we're having our truck towed from the dealer (150 miles away where it died) back home, taking it to an independent mechanic and then writing Toyota Corp a scathing letter about their lack of customer service. And of course we'll be out $1600 because we will have paid the Toyota dealer $800 for the diagnostic, and an additional $800 for the tow back home.

$800 tow? Go find a friend with a truck or rent one, as well as a dolly and pull the driveshaft on the Tacoma, or a flatbed
    A tow dolly is only $45 a day…

And this is exactly why I should have joined this forum years ago...so many people, smarter than me, helping me to save money. (not sarcasm, i'm really just too dumb (or at the very least burned out) to come up with better solutions on my own)

I just came across this thread and I see a lot of good advice on here. Only suggestion I might have added would have been to call any street rod shops or restoration shops nearby and see if they would take a look. Generally those shops have some skilled guys used to rewiring cars.

Sorry to hear of this issue. I’d push that the dealership refund all or some of the diagnosis fees as well. That’s like 4-5 hours of diagnostic troubleshooting billing which is likely well overinflated.

there are likely some shops around where the dealer is at… which would be far cheaper to tow the truck to. If you can point us in the local area the truck is in (e.g. what dealer in Williamsburg) I’ll bet someone on here knows a shop that is close and can make it happen.

id also be polite, but more aggressive with Toyota corporate. Completely unacceptable how they are handling it. I sued a Honda dealership for this type of behavior and won. Don’t back down.

I think, in this case, you should be more aggressive with the dealership and demand a full refund of the diagnosis fees. 4-5 hours of diagnostic troubleshooting billing is outrageous, especially if they didn't even fix the problem!

There are definitely cheaper shops around than the dealership. You should find a local shop to tow the truck to. I'm sure someone on here can recommend a shop nearby if you tell us where the dealership is.

However, if you need more money, I want to suggest you a source where you will be able to read reviews about the best no deposit bonus NZ 2023. Yeah, it gets better though. They originally quoted $800 for the diagnostic and then (after our truck being stranded at the dealership for 30 days) we get the invoice from them and it's $907. I called them back and reamed them and said, "you told me $800 and that's what i'm paying." They said the extra was for a "shop repair fee". I was like YOU DIDN'T REPAIR ANYTHING!!! So I got super bitchy and the guy relented. Toyota Corporate was COMPLETELY useless. They did nothing, said that our issue wasn't covered under the power train so we just paid to have our truck towed back home to the local Goodyear where they are taking a look.

I agree with you...$200 an hour for a 4 hour diagnostic is complete and total bullshit. I will be contacting an attorney over the whole issue and we will be sending a very nasty letter to Toyota corporate. Needless to say, this is the last Toyota we will ever own (which makes me sad because I love my Tacoma). Toyota customer service and all of their affiliates are completely worthless. I'm livid over the entire thing.

The story has finally come to an end:

Toyota Corporate were a bunch of sheisters and we got nowhere with them so we had the truck towed back home. Took it to Goodyear. The truck was there for 48 hours. For diagnostic, repair AND a state inspection the grand total came to $646...

...compared to $7800 + an $800 diagnostic at Ourisman Chantilly Toyota after it sitting there for four weeks. Dealerships are 100% criminals. Toyota Corp will be getting an extremely nasty letter and we'll likely be hitting up a consumer affairs attorney. Fortunately we got out rather than paying another dime to Toyota after the original diagnostic. But, it makes me sick to think that there are other people out there who are getting fleeced.

You don't have wrecking yards where you live? I could buy an entire totaled truck for that price with an intact wiring harness. Is the price of the repair mostly for the harness or for the labor? Can you get a used part and strip the "terminal tab" out of it to replace the broken terminal tab?

They did exactly what others have suggested here in this forum. It turns out it was a little metal tab on the underside of the fuse box that was holding the wire from the wiring harness for the high fuel injection drive into the fuse box. That metal tab was broken so that when the relay for the drive injection was plugged in, it was basically pushing the terminal connector out of the fuse box. From what I understand (as my hubs explained it to me), the mechanic just pulled the drive injection wire out from the back side of the fuse box, crimped on a new metal piece and popped it back into the same terminal to ensure a tight connection between the drive injection terminal and the relay. I think it took him all of like an hour to diagnose and maybe an hour to fix.

Again I'm not a car person so I probably didn't explain that super well but y'all are smart so I'm guessing you can fill in the blanks and understand what I'm trying to say ;)

Pretty sure this is what Goodyear did, only they didn't have to get the part from a junker. He just crimped a new terminal tab on there.
