I recently rebuilt my entire AC system as my truck didn’t have one when I bought it. I replaced everything except the evaporator and expansion valve. I ran the vacuum, made sure there’s no leaks, filled it with 22oz of R134a.

It works but when I’m parked it gets about 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. When I’m driving on the highway after 10 mins, it gets down to 52 degrees Fahrenheit.

I live in Texas and it’s getting insanely hot. What could be the issue with my system? How can I get it blowing ice cold even at idle?

Did you flush the evaporator put the correct amount of oil in the system? Compressor's often come with at least some oil in them, if you add too much oil it will negatively impact cooling performance.

If you didn't change the expansion valve it may not be working correctly either, A/C performance issues can be difficult to diagnose in person much less over the internet. Kinda need to see what pressures look like and such.

I can tell you from my truck it's not gona snow when your idling on a hot day, I even added the TSB condenser fan with helped a bit but 55-60 degree vent temps is about all your gona get idling with a perfectly working system.

I would have changed out the evaporator and expansion valve at the same time. Not that much extra $$ for peace of mind and you definitely don’t want to pull the dash twice.

Check your fan clutch. Spin it by hand and it shouldn't turn more than 1 rev

+1 to this. I thought my AC system had an issue until I realized my fan clutch was bad. Replaced the fan clutch and it blows ice cold

Well you can replace the expansion valve through the firewall from the engine side if needed.

It seems to get ice cold at night, early morning or on days when it’s not so hot. It’s usually when it’s the hottest part of the day that it has a harder time getting ice cold.

I spun the fan clutch and it does get resistance. But I may replace it anyways as it’s original to the truck.

I did get access to the expansion valve, unfortunately one of the screws stripped so I had to leave it alone. If the expansion valve is the issue, I’ll have to take apart my entire dash to get the stripped screw out but not before I empty out the system.

What do yall think I should do first?

After a cold start or an extended (overnight) shut-down: when you first start the truck, does the fan initially roar loudly for 5-10 seconds and then quickly quiet down? It should: I think of it as a fan "self-test".
