I'm working on replacing the left front wheel bearing on my '06 4wd Tacoma. The instructions say to remove the abs sensor, but I can't get it to come out. I removed the bolt & have been only able to get the sensor to turn back & forth a little bit. I work it back & forth while putting pressure on the back, but it just won't even start to come out! I even sprayed a little PB Blaster on it. This thing is plastic & I'm afraid that I might break it. Am I missing something?

Does this thing really need to be removed to change the wheel bearing anyway?

I just did my bearings a few weeks ago and one side was a little tougher than the other. You have the right idea, twist it or try to tap it from the inside with the handle end of a screwdriver. It will need to come out if you are replacing the rear seal. Here is a photo:

Well, I got it out.....in about a half a dozen pieces. The Toyota dealer isn't open on Sundays, so I looked up the part on the Auto Zone web site. I figured that it could cost any where from $15 to $45 to replace it. That little plastic piece is listed at $242.99!!!
What the hell makes that thing so expensive?

I had the same problem, I just pulled and twisted and it popped out.

Well this is amazing......the abs sensor from the Toyota dealer only cost $61 & change. After seeing the Auto Zone price, I expected the dealer price to be well over $300.

I know this thread is pretty old, but I was having issues taking the speed sensors out of my 05 T4R, I already broke one :(...so with your recommendations I'm hoping I can salvage the other. Thanks for the information, guys!!
