Good place to start is head over to Aloha Stadium on swap meet Saturdays and get to know people. The Hawaiians are probably the most giving and fantastic people you'll ever meet. Stay humble. Much respect!

I knew this place was expensive but hot damn. It’s more then what the BAH is. And that’s for some pretty rough locations. I look into the ID. That’s the second time I have been told that.

Pick one of the past times. Stand up paddle or surfing or rugby. It'll happen man. Check out Aiea or Mililani for cheaper rent. Waipahu is rough but doable. Sometimes you can find a deal. If your military ask around there's plenty of people leaving. Good luck with that!

Yeah probably not a good time to hit town but there are places like White Plains you can go it's pretty spread out. There's also K-Bay. Nice giant bay area pretty open you could do stand up in. It takes time but you'll learn to love the place. It's a spiritual experience you'll never forget. I miss it I just don't miss the politics or Kam Hwy rush hour!

I already love it. Just need to make it home for sure. First couple months of every move is the worst. It will all work itself out. Just blessed I have the opportunity to be here

I flew in for a very quick IT project on a day trip from LA and site construction crews and such hadn't done shit when I got there. That's when I learned about "Island Time". They still pulled through though at the last minute.

You gotta head down to MJ’s in Waipio. It’s the same prices as the mainland. Mike is honestly like family at this point. Just did a run today with all the boys up to Peacock Flats. Once you get the truck, you’ll soon learn about it ahah. Check out MJMotorsports on Instagram and you’ll start learning all the trucks and who they belong too haha.

Okay guys great news. I just picked up my truck from the port. First item of business is a wash and wax. It is filthy. Next is the state inspection. Any suggestions on the place that is pretty relax on the inspection? When I lived in Mississippi there were specific ones that were pretty relaxed!!!! I will start throwing up the shocka so you know its me!!!!

Are you lifted or stock? Recon is still mandatory for the rest of this year. Do you have modifications that require recon? Not sure why you need a relaxed inspection station, but if it's for recon-related items then you probably should go through that process. Otherwise, I'm sure someone on here knows of a few relaxed stations (maybe even one that will pass you without recon if you needed it). Good luck!

Just a simple lift. Being military and with Florida registration I don’t want to deal with any hassles. Just trying to get this behind me. It is a process to do it other wise.

Yep, even a simple lift will need recon. Some light reading for you...https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hawaii-recon-information-q-a-thread.99156/

Alternatively, you could be one of those folks I see all the time that drive their vehicle around on current out-of-state registration/tags (with no blue sticker). There are several in my neighborhood alone that continue to do so well past the 30-day window to register in Hawaii. Then come January you could get inspected without recon. I personally wouldn't recommend that route though, since it is kind of illegal. Actually, I'm not sure how those folks are getting past the bill of lading date when they eventually do register...

If you want to fit in with the locals then just do the whole process like the rest of us that live here. You wouldn't want to come across as skirting the rules we gotta follow just because it's inconvenient to you.

If you have Instagram, check out HawaiiOffroadYotas, MJmotorsports808, and soda_and_yotas. All of them post about peacock flats runs or Kaena Point runs. If off-roading/overlanding are your sort of things.

@seanranger3 What BDE you in? I’m on Schofield currently.

I am one of the few that don’t have any social media. Lol. It’s been nice not to have any. I just let the wife deal with all that stuff.

so just moved into Kapilina beach homes. Tried for some navy housing but never heard back!
