I’d guess that unless everything is exactly the same as what was on your recon (which you don’t have the papers to know exactly what was on the recon) they will make you do it all over again so they can put the recon papers in your name as the registered owner. They did that with my last truck. Had recon when I bought it but they made me do it again to put my name on it even though it’s tranferable. I may have had a different tire size though

Hello everyone. Moving to Oahu in a few months. After reading many pages, I still have some questions. Looks like I will be keeping my registration from California. So a safety inspection for me. I’m trying to prep everything I need beforehand. I do not have rear mud flaps(mud ate them) guessing I need to put some on for the safety inspection. My passenger fender flare isn’t there. Popped off one day and I don’t care how it looks. Do I need to replace it? I have stock lights now, but have retrofits in the making. I’m having a cab rack made also to go over my softtopper. Oh I also rub at full turn while shirt a bump. Am I SOL?!? Thanks guys. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Only need mudflaps in the rear. I bought a universal set from 4wheelparts for like $30 I think. And your probably gonna need to replace that fender flare especially if the tread of the tire sticks out past the wheel well. That being said if the tread sticks out even on the ones that have fender flares you'll either need new bigger fender flares, but fiberglass or be like a lot of people here and use guardian edging to extend your fenders. I'm guessing your military? Either way yes you can keep your out of stat registration. I did. If your military you'll need to get with your S1 and get a none resident form them. I recomend getting recon then your safety. You are going to get a failed safety 1st time around because you dont have registration. Once you get recon, failed safety and none resident (if military) take it to the DMV, get registration ($20 for mil) and go pass your safety. That was moreless my experience minuses all the heart and headaches I had. Hope this helped. I'm sure more will add to mine.

Yes, military. I'm going to fail safety because I'm register out of state? So things I need to do are:
    Fix my flares/mudflaps
Fill out Out of State form
    Recon?
    Safety?
    Registration?

Thought all I needed was a safety inspection.

Am I screwed with my new retrofits? Thanks! Very informative and helpful.

Will I get a ticket for it? Just want everything to be good and not have to worry about getting pulled over...

Maybe I'm not understanding it? If I have retrofits on I won't pass recon? If I were to put it on afterwards then I'll be fine? Just seem off to me. lol sorry for all of the questions.

I’m not saying you won’t pass recon with your retrofits on but the recon inspectors have their days at times where they would pass you with them or fail you with it, it’s up to their discretion. I personally went with my stocks then slapped in my retrofits after recon an never had a problem

I was told by one of the Recon Inspectors that HID’s will never pass unless they came standard on the vehicle. They do not know of any aftermarket/retrofit headlights that are DOT approved ballasts is what I was told. Again, your experience may vary.

Bottom line: Recon and PMVI/safety inspection stations will not pass you if you have aftermarket retrofit/HID headlights.

Correct you will need all these things. I got my safety inspection on Schofield and they told me I needed an alignment withing 30 days. But they only had 2 approved alignment shops that they allowed. Not sure if everyone else is that strict but I recomend not going to Schofield. As for the retro fits idk but @seoulja99 is super knowledgeable and already answered about the retro fits. I was told if you get the crusty old white guy you are fucked at recon. My guys was an islander and didnt give a shit.

Retros will never pass recon and technically won’t ever pass safety but safety is a little easier to find someone that may let it slide.
You can get pulled over for retro headlights but chances of that happening are slim but your biggest chance of getting screwed with is in Waikiki and since you’re military I’d imagine you’ll be down there a few times. Outside waiks you’re usually ok unless you’re being a dick then they will use whatever reason to pull you over

Also, order all the parts you can fit into your household goods shipment. If you have any inclination of modifications to your truck.

Been to Waikiki too many times already... not sure what there is to do there. Probably buying a beater car to drive around. I’m close to pelfrey maybe them?
