Looking back at the 2nd Gen Dual swing-out rear bumper thread...doesn't look like they will be available until about 24 OCT (bare) or 7 NOV (powder-coated), at the earliest. I guess it's not meant to be. But at least my bank account is happy.

Most shipping companies will hold your HHG for some time until you’re able to find a place to move into and schedule delivery.

I highly recommend on-post housing as it will be the most bang for the buck, if you’re eligible.

My HHG took about 30 days from Maryland to here. They held my stuff for a few weeks until I finally got on island. I live on Schofield and i like it. The wife and i got a nice newer 3 bedroom house. They take my whole BAH but I'm not upset because I dont get as many Bill's and a bigger place than if I lived off post. I know all the military housing areas have pretty nice housing though.

If you do live on Schofield the auto shop here requires you to take a silly little written shop safety test.

Was just wondering if this would pass recon? But I am putting Air Suspension so its gonna be lower Prolly making the tires tuck in little bit more

Personally I think it'll be a no-go. The contact patch(the part that needs to be covered) of the tire is rounded so it's not really in contact with the ground but I don't know that that argument will work. You can air it down so the tires tuck more but I don't think adjustable suspensions are allowed so the height you go in at is the height it has to stay at so everything must be able to pass at that height like suspension travel and plate height and whatever else and it'll be hard to show alignment is in spec if it's heavily cambered

Guess I didn’t luck out with the right inspector. Went to update my paperwork with change in tire size (went from 255/75 to 265/70) on 17x8 4.5 BS and basically said my tires on passenger stick out from fender (credit the taco lean?). Seems too subjective as you can make the argument that tread is right at fender well when looking straight down. Also said my mud flaps need to cover entire part of tire that touches the ground, which seems odd and not consistent with rule on a tread extending to the fender well being acceptable (also my mud flap didn’t cover the 255/75 either).

I would Have gone with a wider tire from the start when I switched if I knew I was going to get hassled on a 31.5 inch tire. I’m jelly on those that passed with 285s on stock fenders haha.

Advice on what I should do? Garden edging, new flares, new flaps, etc.

Get that garden edging and go get it done. And just reapply when it’s safety check time

Tried searching but it’s really just an Oahu issue... any tips on the garden edging? Is it just drilling holes to line up with existing hole location on stock flares?

I’ve had friends use double sided tape and another friend drill small holes in the bottom lip of the fenders so you can’t see them and just anchored them that way.

Was it recent that your friend passed with double sided tape? The inspector was talking ultra fast but I thought I heard him say it needed to be bolted to the car. I’d prefer to do the tape tho as it’s much easier.

Needs to be secured, screws or bolted. The recon will consider it a body modification.

Ahh bummer. I think it’s ridiculous that I’m getting hassled on 265/70’s in the first place. I had 265/65 on an earlier version of the paperwork before moving up to 255/75. I’m guessing that doesn’t matter given this is all subjective to the specific inspector.

It was awhile ago. Like before the started getting strict on the safety checks.

As someone else said, I think it will be a no-go.. thread should be covered by fender when looking from above or across.. at least the upper side of the tire.

I guess there is 2 ways of looking at it..
to my knowledge, the mudflap thing was always needing to cover the tread of the tire. You got lucky last time. If you really wanted to have your 265s legal, you can borrow a pair off some one with a different BS run that would tuck, then once you have it on your recon paperwork, swap out and yours will be “legal”. You don’t have to list the BS of the rim on your paperwork.

Also (and this is just personal) I would not “need” to have garden edging, then take it off, only to put it on for safety. I think it’s too much risk especially when driving in certain areas (i.e town, Waikiki) to get pulled over for whatever reason, then get a ticket for a recon violation. Add to this that the wife drives the 4R more than I do as a DD. Would hate to put her in that situation. If you want it “nicer” and leave it on, Napa and Autozone sell the rubber fender flare molding. Depending how much your tires are sticking out, you may only need a very small bump.

My first try, would be the rim swap to get the tire size you are running on your recon paperwork.

Thanks for the thoughts. The only issue I foresee with swapping rims is that my lift requires 4.5 inch BS, which is what I currently run. I even went with 17x8s instead of 9s to help with it protruding out. I’m not sure if a stock sport rim on same tires will fit. They only stick out on the passenger side and it’s so minor that I was surprised the inspector even made a deal out of it (like less than quarter inch). It’s so negligible lol.

In hindsight, knowing what I know now, I would have just gone with 285s, 17x9s and bushwhackers haha.
