Safety Check questions but is TPMS needed in aftermarket rims and tires?

I seen some threads that its not needed but I hate to be a dumb ass and go down only for that to be the only item to fail.

Your best bet will be to call up a Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection (PMVI aka "Safety") Station and ask them that generic question. Recommend not providing them any of your personal information.

TPMS are not mentioned in the HAR 19-133.2 PMVI Manual for Inspectors of Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.

Do i need to go back to recon if I put an aftermarket rear bumper something like this?

Bumper not really! But you would need mud flaps for you safety check.

Anyone get any flak for having working Ditch lights? I just installed a set and was wondering if I should remove them prior to going down to the Recon place?

Auxiliary lights that are for off road use only are allowed. Some trucks have been told to cover them up by the inspector. Depends on who you get.

I just got some lexan covers for the lights just in case.
Making mud flaps for the 35" tires. Can't really fit them up yet until I install the lift and tires next week. Hopefully my new Lund Flares will be here also?

How’s it guys! I’ve been reading through and couldn’t find a definite answer to my questions:

    1. Are wheel spacers allowed? Seems like per the instruction that you can but I saw some people say no. It’ll be wheel spacers only in the rear to match the front trac width of the spindle lift. I’m just concerned if the wheel spacers go unnoticed for recon if the safety check would flag it.

    2. I did read the whole covering of the auxiliary lights. I have two rear facing pods under my rear bumper that I’m assuming needs to be covered?

    3. I have pods in place of my fog lights. Would that be considered aux lights as well or do I need to put the stocks back?

    Really appreciate the help!

    1. If the wheel spacers cause your tires to stick out beyond the fenders, recon will most likely fail you. I don’t think it’s a matter of wheel spacers or not. It is more likely the outcome of using wheel spacers that will be the determining factor for passing or failing.

    2. I didn’t cover up my auxiliary lights (fog lights, front bumper light bar, ditch lights, or rear bumper pods), and I passed recon. I guess it depends on who you get as an inspector? Or maybe how they are connected and used. All of my auxiliary lights are operated separate from any OEM component. Plus, don’t most (if not all) aftermarket auxiliary lights come stamped with “for offroad use only” or at least with an owners manual that cautions something similar?

    3. Fog lights are not a standard option/feature on all vehicles, and most fog lights don’t come covered from the factory. So, as long as you can turn them on and off independently, you should be fine. Also, recommend to keep auxiliary lights off on pavement unless you really need them (i.e. foggy conditions, which we rarely get here).

Take what I say with a grain of salt. The best is to call the Recon office directly ask question for specific answers. But even then, it depends on which inspector you ask or does your actual inspection.

Right on! I’ve passed recon before so I understand the whole part about covering the tire and stuff just wasn’t sure about the wheel spacers itself although it will be small (just to match the back to the front). Definitely agree with auxiliary lights off while driving on the road as there is never really a need for them. The fog pods was honestly more for looks hahaha ... thank you for your answer though I really appreciate it!!

Well finally took her in for Recon. Passed easily. the only thing they even asked about was the smoke tail lights. (If I installed covers on them?) I told them no that's how the lights come. Everything was really fast!

Installing a maxtrac spindle lift up front and plan on replacing my stocks with SCS F5 17x8.5 with 4.3"BS and Wildpeak AT3Ws in either 285/70/17 or 255/80/17 and run a 1.25 spidertrax spacer in the rear only. Does anyone know if either of those tires with the wheels with be within stock fenders on both front and rear?
Already have a recon sticker with papers from previous owner but it won't be current after I install new lift and tires. Guess I need to strip my front tints too, last safety was at a random spot and I just had my front windows down and they didn't check lol

I’m pretty sure that people with -12 offset don’t pass with 285’s, can’t say for sure about the skinny tires tho. I think 0 offset was the consensus about passing. The spindles push out the wheels 2” right? So with the f5’s, it’ll be outside the flares. Stocks it may be in.

Yeah i’m not sure how offset works tbh. I believe spindles push front wheels out .75”. Stocks can’t be run with spindles because their backspacing is too high. Wouldn’t mind putting garden trim as flares but would run them normally without and hope I don’t get pulled over.

Just the more negative offset you have the farther the wheel sticks out. I don’t like measuring with backspacing cuz it changes per rim width. 0 offset pushes edge of tire flush, -12 would be tread at edge. Some pass some don’t, just gotta see for yourself. But if you’re gonna do the garden edge trim and then remove, I say fuck it and run um hard lol

Realistically though, are cops out to get you if your tires are sticking out just an inch or two at most outside of the fender? May be a good reason to pull you over if you’re driving 2am, but will they really ticket for you if you don’t give them an attitude or anything like that?
