I'm pretty sure if you get pulled over for your tires sticking out, they will check your recon paperwork and make sure your truck matches.

Hi guys new here. Just bought my 1st Tacoma. It already has a lift and aftermarket tires... It has the Recon sticker but no paperwork inside the truck so I want to do Recon again. Do you folks think this is anywhere near passable? The lift kit is a Fab Tech. I do have stock tires incase these are too large.

Just giving them a reason. I’ve personally been in a vehicle(Tacoma) with those wide ass stretched mud tires that got pulled over and my buddy got his recon scrapped and ticket. Tires lead to tint and expired insurance tickets. If you go through Waikiki(like we were) or China town I would be careful.

your truck is mean! i work in ala moana and go through waikiki/chinatown every so often with no problem right now with the only thing being illegal my tint. will probably end up making fronts legal after so if i do end up getting pulled over and ticketed for tires tint won’t get added on.

For real, sometimes it is just not worth the hassle. I try to keep list of violations to a minimum and not drive like a douche.

But, if some cop was really technical and wanted to be dick, you have more than 4 forward facing lights that are exposed. Even if not turned on, headlights, driving lights, and the hood lights make 6. You're supposed to have covers. I highly doubt you would get pulled over for just that if they weren't on, though. But I see idiots with light bars and LEDs on while driving on the road, and funnier when its daylight.

Every day in Kaneohe there’s a white f250 that’s drives around with his light bar on and a blue second gen Tacoma that has his ditch lights on often.

Nope never, but if it was I I would be the guy to get them lol. Every day I see a few Nissan hard bodies rolling around with a giant farmers market reflective decal on their windshields and they never get ticketed either.

Just went to recon yesterday to update tire and rim size, pretty painless. Weird how their hours are noon to 3 now, i was there at 1145 and was behind 6 vehicles. By 12 the line was outside the fence and in the street.

They moved pretty quick though, I’d say i was done within 15 mins when i got to the front of the line. They seem to have a lot more inspectors now too. I’m just happy I didn’t need to get alignment again since my suspension didn’t change, he just checked bumper heights and updated paperwork. Nice that it was free too because my recon sticker was still in good condition. Also glad that I don’t need garden flares anymore :D

Toku what size rims and tires are those (any spacers). And what kind of flares did you get to help you pass recon?

The rims are 18x10" 4.5" BS and spidertrax 1.25" spacers. The flares are Lund. They are wider then the BW flares. But remember it also depends on the Brand of tire you get also. Without the spidertrax it would have passed easily!

So you sticking out about 1.25 and the lund covers it well.

Think the lund would cover 2" from from fender???

Also thanks for the info. Effing recon is stupid.

BTW your trunk is really nice. Clean look.

With the stock flares and no spacers the tires stuck out about 7/8" almost 1".
Now with the 1.25" spacers and the Lund flares the tires are 1/8" under the flares. (The part that makes contact with the ground) The side walls stick out of the fenders. So by those results, I think the Lund adds approximately 2.25" of additional coverage over the stock flares.
    Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the info. This is exactly what information I was looking for.
Looks like I'll be grabbing me a set of Lunds.

Also looks like you live near me lol. I live Royal Kunia

Right now it's stock. But I'm getting it lifted very very soon and want to get as much info about recon as I can.

    I'm getting a 6" BDS lift.
    22x12 -44 offset rims
    33 x 12.5 tires
    SPC UCA.

I am not 100% sure how much I'll actually stick out from under the fender until it's on the truck. I've just been doing it mathematically with the offset and back spacing vs my stock rims.

I’d recommend you go with Procomp over BDS. Procomp is a better kit and cheaper! Let me know if you need help? Since you’re in my hood I can swing by and we can talk story.

Finally got my bumper. If I get time to mount it up this weekend. What's the time I have to get to recon? I'm sure the cops dont care since I already have recon just getting an update. But dony want to get a ticket. Also when updating recon are they gonna require me to get another alignment?
