January 1st they will stop doing Recon until 2025. I believe they will do an assessment if they need to bring the program back at that point.

Lift? Yea I got one of those
Ohh good to know. On that note, would you know if (for those of us who have recon) that for safety check, do we need to have our trucks looking like how they "need" to look like when we passed for recon? I assume if we met that passing standard then we gotta stick with that. Something I was curious about.

When I took my wife’s car for its safety check last month, I briefly inquired about that and they guy said that they would pretty much take on the recon part. I didn’t ask any further as I have recon, they have passed me before without any issues and haven’t really done anything to the truck since that would not make me pass.

Edit: so my assumption is that yes, the truck needs to reflect what’s on the recon paper or at least be in a way that it would pass recon requirements (tire poke, tint, rear mud flaps etc.).

The recon is not transferable. It goes away eff Jan but if u can't wait book an appt on line if they have any avail. Just take ur safety check, registration, insurance card and get a new one.

You need to go down and get in line. First come first serve. Starts at 12 pm on weekdays people start to line up about 11:30am. When I went they had 4 workers processing vehicles so it went fairly quick. Your truck needs to be compliant to the recon requirements

Seen this on the state website. Recon inspections will be done during safety checks? Anybody have any more info?

basically safety check people are required to abide by the original recon rules. no recon doesn't really mean anything still gotta make your truck legal once a year

All islands have the exact same requirements for Safety Checks. Oahu just had Recon inspection, due to the island population being over 250K. But all vehicle on all islands follow the same rules for reconstructed vehicles. The Recon rules come from the Safety Check standards.
It's just that outer islands don't enforce the actual Safety Check rules.

I wonder what safety is going to say about my arb bumper this year, last year they told me I needed recon for it. Took it off and went back and got safety.

my friend also wanted to lift the front of his truck. You think all he needs is to lift it and get alignment and should be good to get safety?

No! You need to read the safety check guidelines. They are exactly the same as Recon.
Due to the fact that you have an "altered" bumper your truck height should be measured from the bottom of the Frame rail. The law was written to prevent people from going really high with their trucks and altering the bumper lower to meet to height requirements.
However this law wasn't well designed. It does not clarify raised or lowered, it only states "Altered". Because if you have a case that the altered bumper is actually higher than the 33" limit? The frame becomes the point of measure (Because the bumper was altered) which is significantly lower than the stock bumper. Which in essence allows your truck to be much higher than originally intended to prevent.
    "Loop holes in the regulations".
But again you need to read and understand the regulations to find these "loop holes".
99.9% of safety check stations don't understand the regulations the pretend to enforce! All they want is the $25 and not to get hit with a violation.

Sounds like a cluster F, my friend will probably not lift his truck, he was on the fence because of all the uncertainty.

As for me, since I passed last year, I’ll probably take off my bumper again. I have recon and the only thing not on my paperwork is the bumper.

play it by ear I suppose.

No not at all! Just google the recon info and it will tell you.
Most of the safety check places only care if your tires stick out beyond the fenders. Oh and some have a stick up their ass about the color of your headlight bulbs. LMAO!
I would recommend just doing a 2" lift with 33" tires. SPC UCA's adjusted to setting "F" or "G" and timing the front plastic. and he should be golden! No need for a cab mount chop unless he gets crazy offset rims. But stick with 285's on 17x9 wheels 4.75" BS and it should be great!

    Good luck!
There are safety check places that if you buy them beer they will give you the sticker!! LMAO!!

For those of you who swap wheels/tires yearly for safety check, do you need TPMS installed on both sets so the dash indicator doesn't light up? Mahalo

If your house is or wherever you store the tire with the tpms it won't go off. You can travel atleast 20 to 25 miles before it goes off. I do it everyday
