Love how tight it looks to the tail gate, exactly how I want mine to be.

Most people leave a decent gap there and I have no idea why?

    Thanks...
I know what you mean about the big gap..
I wanted my spare tight so I would not hit or drag it on steep climbs.
I left enough space so I could hold a 37" tire. I am hoping to be doing a SAS some time next year...

Keep us updated on how the angled latch works out. From the looks of it, that should be about the best setup to prevent movement of the swingout.

On mine, the latch only pulls towards the truck and not down. This allows for some vertical movement of the swingout, and a lovely rattle, even when latched. Might redo mine to be angled like yours.

Yeah. I am hoping it works good. It does pull in and down when I latch it. Only time will tell...

When you get it back together I'm curious to see how you set up the pop pin. I need to add one to mine. Got a camp table setup planned so I need it to stop at 90* Also, where'd you get it?

How many of your ideas can I steal? Was looking at how I could modify my latch setup to be angled already.

Awesome. Thanks! Think I'll end up getting a heavier latch while I'm at it.

The one I have is 1000 LBS with a double lock. Should be plenty strong.. Mc master Carr has them also.

Hmmm. simple enough design on the pin, but I would like mine to latch automatically. Looks like you have to pull it up to both latch and unlatch it. Time to do some brainstorming.

Yeah I do. But not a big deal to me. If I have to pull to close so I don't mind pulling to lock open. Just wanted it simple.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but, can u tell me what angle the tire is mounted at? I really like how it doesn't have a snag point on the trailing edge.

I just hung the tire with a cherry picker and set an angle I thought worked best then marked it on my up tube. Never measured the angle. I could if you want to know.

Thx, but I'll probably have to do the same thing now that I think about it. The hatch on my topper isn't necessarily the same angle as yours. Still, you've put me on the right course.
