    Hey guys,
The different plastic factory battery trays on the 1st Gens work OK. But I am thinking about bolting a metal or super HD Marine plastic battery tray in my '97 Taco for a bit more security on a heavy 24F or 27F battery. More flexibility especially on height would be welcome. If you have already done this, LMK what tray you used. TIA!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I use the ones I buy from East Penn Battery less then $5.00 last time a bought a bunch.

You really don`t need extra support as long as the battery is secured correct.

I replace these on my new to me vehicles when playing maintenance catch up.

I do appreciate the input. Just not sure the poly construction trays made by East Penn/Deka/Lynx or Attwood will take the beating my Taco mud truck gets. Would rather go with a battery size specific steel tray, preferably coasted to resist all the deep mud/high water this Taco sees. A stainless tray would be ideal for my use but all I see is the low quality made-in-China SS trays. Still kicking this upgrade around in my head.

The (2) opposing super-sized zip ties secure the 24F AGM battery from sliding around with the OEM battery mount bracket attachment. This works but a solid battery tray mount would be a better solution especially if I upgrade to the larger/heavier/much more capable 67 lb. Northstar X2 27F battery IMO.

It appears that what I have been looking for is a piece of nostalgia. Hollywood Accessories/Mr. Gasket manufactured a 16GA vinyl coated steel battery tray a LONG time ago. I remember these battery trays being in the local auto parts store back in the '60s-'70s. This is exactly what I was hoping to find. So I bought this NIW/NOS vintage Mr. Gasket/Hollywood Accessories NO. 680 16GA vinyl coated steel battery tray on ebay & am GTG. Thanks guys!

How does it handle the sulfuric acid drips?

This vintage vinyl coated steel tray should work just fine especially given AGM battery use. I would have preferred a battery tray made out of stainless. But I was very much under impressed with the universal SS trays I saw on Amazon. Fabricating a battery box out of SS was and still is an option if needed. I was a full-time fabricator/iron worker/welder for years. We fabricated a custom battery box out of stainless for the surplus U.S. M38A1 JEEP we rebuilt in '81. It handled battery acid splashes/fumes just fine for 25+ years until it was sold. With the sealed AGM type batteries most off-roaders use now, battery acid/fumes are much less of a problem. Even the modern flooded wet cell batteries are now better designed so as not to leak acid nearly as much as the batteries I remember from the distant past. Gone hunting!
