Not surprised. Tow truck drivers rarely leave pavement.

Sounds like they should start digging and post in the Facebook pages for Nevada 4x4 recovery and the Eastern Sierra 4x4 Club.

I guess the tow truck had him hooked but couldn't get it done. Not sure what that's about.

    THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECOVERED.

A sno-cat pulled him out. Sounds like the rain made things difficult for the tow truck.

Hi All - So AAA could not get him out. The called in the Snowcat and he is now out! No Cost because of the location on a Mammoth Mountain private access road that was not coned off.

Thank you to Hobbs for all the conversations. Nice to know that people are willing to help. Thankful that Hobbs did not have to drive there as it was unlikely he could have helped.

Have a great weekend and Happy Trails!

Get him a small backcountry snow shovel for his birthday. A little digging and some floor mats under the tires and he would have likely been able to self-recover.

Glad he's out and wasn't stuck for too long.

Snow is a tricky beast, as it is always different.

You are totally correct though. We may not know the exact condition of the snow, but 12 seconds of planning will change this outcome.

He surely learnt a valuable lesson, without getting hurt. Perfect.

Snowmobile tracks might have been a clue not to go there. 4x4's cant go everywhere. At least he wasn't 10 miles back in off a road.

He did learn not to leave the MaxTrax at home. As for the digging, he did that for a while but kept sliding back down into the soft snow. The real issue was that the rain caused the snow to turn to ice making is slippery. The SnowCat drive even told him that.

It was actually an access road that the Mountain forgot to cone off from the public. Thus the reason there was no charge.

Yes, he is having fun doing mods. It has a dual battery setup as well. We took the RTT off for this trip and that is why the MaxTrax were not there, they were under the cover of the RTT in my garage.
