Does anyone know if the oil Dipstick tube is a problem cause with the jdm it’s on the driver side and on mine it’s in the front of motor. Will this cause issues unable to read oil?

For anyone that is still interested in this topic. I’ve look for replacement engines that aren’t jdm with no luck. I did get a jdm motor but some modifications need to be done. One being timing cover because dipstick on jdm is on the side, exhaust and intake. The jdm head has a 4 port and my intake is 8, and pully/accessories. I’m thinking since I need a 8 port head and since my head is good. I saw my head over to the jdm motor put my timing cover on and call it a day.

Can you please document as much as you can? I'm sure it would help others who happen to get this problem later on. Speaking of blown head gaskets.. what's a good way to prevent them? and are they somewhat common for the 3rz?

If the jdm engine came with an intake use it’s lower half and your upper. Just pay attention to which injectors it has. My engine had brown and my jdm had pink. I used my browns because the pink were higher flow.

I can’t use the lower intake part it’s all one piece.... I’m either gonna have to swap my head to the jdm for the 8 port or use my 8 port on the 4 port

I’d try to find a lower half off on 01-04 before I done that. I wouldn’t pull the head on a jdm. I’d buy a short block before I done that. That’s basically all your using anyway.

Actually I believe I found one. Only problem now is I have to swap timing covers to get a reading for the dipstick. Do you have a jdm?

I didn’t have a jdm. I used an 01 in my 99. Timing cover can be swapped without removing the head if you have the oil pan off. I only had intake differences. Does the jdm not have a plug in the timing cover that can be removed for the dipstick?

Look harder. LEAVE THE HEAD ALONE. There’s millions of them. Check EBay motors/parts/

    It’s a plug I don’t believe it can be unscrewed it’s a aluminum plug.

You’ll have the pan off. If it’s a plug try bumping it out.

I’ll send a picture once I get a chance. Also the head in this 3rz has a camshaft sensor but of course I’m not gonna need it so it shouldn’t be a problem right? I’m using a distributer

For anyone else I’m kinda wondering. Since my jdm motor has the camshaft sensor in the head does it mean it’s not a 2.7l and actually a 2.4? It has 3rz written on it and it was pulled from a 4x4 car/truck. Has 3rz on the block, but just wondering if it’s even a possibility I got a 2rz instead of a 3rz.
