I'm crawling under my truck this morning to look at something when I notice this pinkish blob looking thing near the engine below a header bolt. I reach up and break it off and realize it's hardned toyota antifreeze and that I might have a head gasket leak.

My truck only has 80,000 miles so I'm a bit suprised. What does everyone think. Should I get get it looked at? I'm broke so I really can't get it fixed now but if it's a head gasket leak, how much am I looking at?

I can't see well enough but it doesn't look like the head gasket, it looks like just below it. Is there a freeze plug or something there?

The freeze plug is almost directly below it and looks fine.

sorry, I see better with my glasses on now. I think you are correct about the gasket . However, If you are not leaking into the c.c. it might be fine while you save up some money. It looks like it has been weeping for a while.

Do you live in a warm state? I would add some block sealer and cross my fingers.

I thought I had the same problem at one time. You can get a pressure test on your antifreeze system to give you an idea on how bad the leak is, but all i can say is keep an eye on you antifreeze level and the color of your engine oil. Try maybe an additive like engine restorer. Hope for the best.

My antifreeze level is at the L mark. I don't think I've paid attention to the level before but I will now. I have to wonder how long it has been leaking and if it still is.

CMF21, what ever happened with your head gasket? I have an 04 XtraCab that's had that same pink blob issue for awhile...been monitoring the oil and coolant level weekly, still running like a champ so far.

Go to your local parts store and get a bottle of Blue Devil. It will take care of that small amount of leakage. but yes, it is coming from your head gasket.

I had the gasket replaced in 12/2011. The repair shop also sent the head out to a machine shop to smooth it out. While they had everything apart I had them do my timing belt and stuff while everything was apart. Since then I haven't seen any leaks in 45,000 miles.

Don't second guess. Pressure test then if that is normal, dye test.
