Head Light Cut Off Specs...

I have a 17 DC OR with no lifts, rims or tire mods... All things like that are stock.

I drive two other vehicles with very distinct head light cut offs. My 13 Subie Outback (best lights I have ever owned) and a 08 Honda CRV.

Mine is straight but really low (in my opinion). Even my wife... without any prompting talked about how low it is and how much she did not like it. I even did a H9 mod just to get more light out there. It's brighter but still cuts off low.

In an effort not to be "that guy" with stupid head lights... Is there a spec on how high the cut off should be?

Had mine adjusted for free under warranty after a lift... its a safety thing for you, complain that ur outrunning the lights.

 

That's exactly what I wanted to say.

 

Generally, the higher the headlight (lowbeam) is off the ground, the more downward it's aim needs to be so it meets state requirements.

Info might be in the link, or the local service shop should be familiar if headlight aim is part of a yearly inspection...

Not sure what the regulations are in Arkansas but for what it's worth this is what I could find for CA (CA DOT website).

The headlamps shall be so aimed that when the vehicle is not
loaded none of the high-intensity portion of the light shall at a
distance of 25 feet ahead project higher than a level of five inches
below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes, and in
no case higher than 42 inches above the level on which the vehicle
stands at a distance of 75 feet ahead.
(b) The intensity shall be sufficient to reveal persons and
vehicles at a distance of at least 200 feet.

I'm also looking into better lighting options and probably going to do the H9 conversion. Did it help much and what bulbs did you use? Did you modify the wiring at all for the increased wattage (sounds like others say it's not necessary)?

Actually I think they are saying is that at 25' level with the height of your head light it can not be more than 5" high and 42"@75'. To me that is very flexible.

Is that what you think it is saying???

Yes it does throw more light out there. Does nothing to the cut off. To me there should be no reason to worry about the wiring as that is the same bulb used in the high beams. To start off I thought I would use the basic bulb... I used these. There is a very slight blue to the glass...very slight.

They are actually NOT yellow. They are definitely more white but no way a 4-5000k.

YOU DO NOT NEED A DREMIL TOOL. I used a small sharp diagonal pliers and a small razor knife like this.

I agree with the OP, but I thought it was because of the slightly pitched forward stance of trucks so when something is in the bed you're not blinding everyone on the road. But even then, with my cap and storage system in the back, I got a lot of high beam flashes. Put some bags in the back to get me back to where it should be.
