How has this thread not happened sooner?! I've been shaving my head for about 25 years. In the past I would go with a Mach 3 for a smooth finish, but these days I just use a corded Wahl every few days. Wireless shavers just don't seem to get the job done right IMO. Just getting started.
I'll second the Merkur, it's what I now use and it's a solid razor. Plus make sure you get good quality blades, I've been using Astra's Platinum line lately and really like them, but have heard some good things about the Japanese blades.

I use the pitbull skullhead shaver. They sell it on Amazon as well. Buy a replacement blade every 3 months or so and it's golden. Quick and easy

Creamo shave cream and a Mach. I've spent $$$ on safety razors, and tried to stick with it for multiple weeks, but became anemic from the blood loss. Typically I shave 2x/wk.

When I was helping with my dad's hospice care and staying at his house, there was a Gillette something or other electric. It would reduce the stubble, but if I'm going to go bald, I need it smooth.

Post shave, I now switch up between one of my wife's leave-in hair products and straight virgin olive oil.

i started head shaving last year with a Remington Pro Head shaver (Amazon about $60)... i started cutting my own hair decades and decades ago with Wahl clipper set (Walmart) and it showed a hack job until it grew back out... laughing... i've saved tons of money and time by not visiting a barber/beauty shop... my hair has a propensity to collect twigs, dirt, and debris... i like the low maintenance aspect now but people say i look "gangster"...

I use my Wahl Balding clippers. I like how it cuts close enough to leave just the tiniest amount of stubble. However, since it's flat, it's not ideal for a round head. I'd like to try one of the dedicated electrics, but the reviews are all over the place. I don't want to drop $$$ only to be disappointed and looking for the next one to try.

I used to use balding clippers and was always happy with the results, but my last deployment I decided to get a Pitbull Skull Shaver and it was a game changer. A couple minutes each morning and I'm done. Shaves down smooth with no stubble. I do not regret that purchase.

I think that's the route I'm going to go. I've been doing some research and it seems that the Pitbull shavers are almost always at the top of the list. Which model did you get? Supposedly the Gold PRO and above have a more powerful motor, and the Diamond PRO is brushless but it's a whopping $450 MSRP!

Excellent quality vintage razors are available on eBay and elsewhere. There is an amazing variety of blades available (another shout out for Astras) and shaving creams.
100 blades can be had for less than $20 CDN.
Once you start shaving this way you'll never go back to a cartridge.

Pretty sure I have the Gold Pro. I bought the travel case also. The Gold Pro is on sale right now on skullshavers website. I find zero need for the added features of the platinum, I've never had it accidentally turn on when traveling and a wash indicator is just a gimmick. I've also never found the need for a brushless motor, it's already pretty quiet and I've never felt the rpms drop enough to negatively affect performance.

I see most people use a Mach 3 for shaving. And I'm no exception. But I have to use a ton of lotion because it dries my scalp out. Fortunately, I came across ShopHQ reviews and chose a proper one that works great for me. I've always had dry skin, but now when I need to shave my head every other day, I feel so uncomfortable if I don't moisturize it.

I have one of these as well. It shaves well.

I tend to use my R41 quite regularly as well as a Gillette Old.

Those of you using electrics, what's the time to shave head and face? I recently saw the ads for (Remington?) that says 90 seconds for a bald head. I didn't see where the rubbing alcohol/lighter was used for that time.
