So I want to get a new head unit for my Tacoma (I have an sr5 without the jbl headunit) I've looked on the android side of things and could only find stuff for the sienna and its kind of sketchy for me to order from china for it maybe not to work. I then thought about getting a pioneer head unit but kind of want to keep the stock look inside my truck. I then thought if i buy one of the jbl headunits come on ebay I could buy the screen mirror kit and be all set. My main question is will this just plug and play and secondly if i buy one say out of the sienna or corolla will it work in the tacoma or do i have to buy one that came out of a tacoma? thanks for the insight.

Stock units are made by Panasonic so that's probably your best bet for plug and play. Smarter guys than me have changed out theirs, hopefully they will respond. Good luck.

I leave my head units and add amps to amplify sound to speakers. Factory look, aftermarket sound

I'd switch to an aftermarket HU only if you want android auto/carplay. There's options coming with wireless android auto too.
