Headache Rack made to pull elk is it possible?

well i would kinda like a headache rack idea better because i wouldnt have to carry the hoist around all season.

In my opinion , winching from a headache rack attached by the bedrails is a bad situation waiting to happen .

You seem pretty determined to make this work , for that you need to talk to a fabricator .

there would be way too much leverage on the rack... you wouldnt get a straigh pull anyway, youd need a ramp of some sort. If you put the winch lower in the bed you would have less leverage and just run the line down the ramp.

to make it easier you could get rollers and make ramps out of some 2" square tubing with the rollers in between or maybe some steel ramps covered with delrin (slippery hard plastic) . Then run without the tailgate since it wouldnt handle the weight anyway.

with the ramps leading right into the bed use the winch to drag the elk or whatever right up the ramps into the bed. No need for a headache rack since it would put the winch too high

OK the elk winch is out... The mule deer winch is out... How about a squirrel winch? I think we can make this work from a headache rack.

 

put a corn pile in the bed of your truck, go about 100 yards away with your riffle. shoot any animal of weight and preference when it gets in your truck to eat, drive home. end thread.
