I’m headed over to Wilmington for a wedding in a couple weeks. How is croatan national forest? Not looking for anything super technical just want to get a little dirty and get out in the woods for a bit.

    edit: croatan *

I have seen it quite challenging at times back there, but you have to know where to look. It is mainly just miles of dirt roads. If you have a 4wheeler there is an OHV towards catfish lake. I believe it is mostly back open now. Had several closures from the Hurricane this past fall..

it cost, but there is day driving at fort fisher and can camp at the north end (freeman park) at Carolina Beach.
$100 pass to drive on the beach in EI (Emerald Isle) across from the Croatan.
