So, my manifold is leaking pretty bad and needs to be replaced. I wouldn't really consider headers otherwise because I understand any gains aren't worth the effort of the install. (boost is not in my future) But since I have to do the work any way what are the pros/cons of each. Cost is pretty close so I'm not taking that into consideration. Just wondering about low end loss, heat, etc with header. TIA

On the later models they came with an oem shorty style header. Get that!

but that option would save you money so that's kinda dumb, the other option is to be like the cool kids and get a longtube header:D

All I've seen as far as headers are Doug Thorley and JBA. Neither of which have long or short tube options for the '96. They just are what they are. Does anyone have experience with either of these?

    Myself stock Manifolds .

I got real tired of replacing them after about 2 winters in my misguided youth

I can only think with the Liquid brine even worse.

LCE makes a long tube header, bolts on just before the cat. I have one on one of my tacomas. Stock one cracked.

The other one i replaced after the damn cast manifold cracked too, as they all will! Replaced that one with the updated toyota oem tube style that they produced to fix their issue. As i mentioned above this would pry be your best option. Buy new or if you have access to a parts truck or junkyard truck (later model, starting in '01 or '02 not sure when toyota made the change) utilize that option...

Yes, go stock. If you have to get headers, get the thickest flange (flange to head) you can possibly find. You will be tightening them a lot otherwise.
