Hi everyone, I know this is off topic and hopefully I posted this in the right place. My wife and I are scheduled to leave Philly, PA. 9/16 for Crescent City and I am trying to get some info about the wildfires. Want to definitely spend time in Jedidiah Smith area and then head 101 south to visit other parks. Concerned about losing power in our Crescent City rental, smoke, etc. Traveling a long way and just trying to get some local perspectives. Really appreciate any info!

CC has had its share of fire related issues. There have been periodic road closures as well. Right now, as an example, 199 is open with delays. It closed for a bit yesterday.

Expect smoke. Everything else, you’re just gonna need to watch websites. You’re looking for the Smith River Complex Fire information. As you might expect, there are fire restrictions in place. You will need a fire permit to have either a campfire or operate a propane stove. They’re available online and it takes about 5 minutes to get.

Smoke isn’t bad, cooler weather has helped a lot. Looks like more cool weather coming in very soon. Containment lines have been holding for awhile, virtually no smoke south of CC.

There’s a really good wildfire app that provides updates on current fires called “Watch Duty” We’ve found this app to be super helpful here in Northern California
