No, it randomly got like that. At first I thought something ate thru the wires but it looks like acid or something just burned thru it. Everything is stock

looks to me like something chewed on it and the heat from shorting might have melted it a bit. Probably won't be warrantied.

Called Toyota and they told me the harness would be $2300. I'm taking it in tomorrow though.

That seems like a lot for just a harness. Maybe they misunderstood what you were asking? If that is true how are these trucks sold for "only" 30k

I'll fly to your location and fix the wiring all up, install 24" of spankin' new split-loom tubing and black tape, PLUS replace the blown fuse.... all for the special low price of $2199. But you must act now.. Operators are standing by . . .

I don't see why it wouldn't be covered. If not, you could probably cut out the damaged wire and replace it with the same without much problem. It almost looks like the split loom melted which allowed the wires to rub on something and get eaten through.

If dealer wont cover it, dorman h11 pigtails are roughly $2,294 less than oem harness dealer quoted

Yall are giving too much credit to customer service/parts people at dealers. They probably quoted him the whole chassis harness for the truck, not the headlight harness pigtail.

I would not warranty that. Clearly some kind of mechanical damage. Hey next time could you video in landscape orientation? It would make it easy to enlarge the image to see what we're dealing with. #verticalvideosyndrome

Rodents just love the taste of the Soy based wiring insulation being used in the newer vehicles

    http://www.synlube.com/IncredibleEdibleCar1.htm

    http://bc.ctvnews.ca/eco-friendly-vehicle-wiring-being-nibbled-by-rodents-1.3253266

In the cold winter months it's not unusual for rodents to sneak their way into car engines to warm themselves up. But an eco-friendly soy-based insulation being used by several automakers may be tempting these critters too much.

Rats chewed out the wiring in Art Liestman’s Honda CRV, causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

“I guess they had nibbled through the insulation and exposed the bare wires and they were short circuiting and things were going haywire,” he said.

Mechanic Max Chang at Hu's Automotive says the issue is common. He believes it’s becoming even more common as automakers like Honda, Toyota and Subaru turn to soy-based insulation.

We need a "Rat Poison" based insulation. My neighbor spent 700 + for a harness and labor on his older Tundra.

If its not covered under warranty, cut out the bad spots, solder in a peice with some shrink tube and new loom. Looks like a 15 minute job. Ask how much the dealer would want to fix without replacing the "2300"$ harness.
