I'm planning on putting the SS3 pod LED fog lights on my new tacoma once I get it, and was wondering whats the best solution for the headlights to match? I'll have the projector housings and would like increased light output that matches the LED fogs. Common sense solution says LED replacement bulbs but I've read that they're sub-par in the projector housings...

I have Hikari LED bulbs and couldn't be happier as far as straight up bulb replacement goes. At some point in the future I'll probably go with Toyota LED headlights if I can find them at a decent price.

which SS3? I have the SS3 Pro in Yellow/Amber and its very bright. I doubt any OEM headlight will overpower those fogs

I'll opine that you should leave them unmatched. Running lights on the street that comes close to the output of an SS3 is considered a dick move in my culture.

I should've clarified more....for a 2021 tacoma, I'm going with the SS3 fog beam, in white. I want my projector headlights to have bulbs that match the COLOR output of those fogs. I understand that the SS3's are very bright and I dont intend to blind oncoming traffic. I just want matching color. Be it LED or HID swap into the projectors.

I think you're safe in the 5500 - 6k rating. I'm still trying to understand the obsession people have with matching fogs with headlights. I think the best set up would be OEM LED or RX-350 retrofit with amber SS3s.

The perfect match would than be the OEM halogen headlights with the halogen fogs :D

Just installed some Hikari Ultra HB3/9005 in a second gen (factory is H10). I removed the housings (very easy), then I could install the 9005 base easily, then reinstalled to truck, then reinserted bulbs and twisted to line up properly @3 and 6 oclock. Since they don't make H10's I went with the 9005's. Everywhere said the base need mods, but it doesn't, you just got to get the base right to twist to 3 and 6 and be snug. A bit of a trick to make work, but it can be done with NO MODS to the base plate. Hung driver/canbus with zip ties... Massive light with great cutoff. Did the same with the Hikari Ultra H4's for the main headlights, super cutoff and great light output. NO FLASHING from oncoming after install. As LED progresses they are getting it right finally in halogen housings....they do light the way rather well, far superior to Halogen...for about $150 for both driving and fogs...I cruised Ebay and Amazon for deals to save some $$$$$...very happy...

The diode dynamics HID kit is available in 3 color temp options. Find out what the color temp of the fogs is and see if they have a match?

I ended up going with diode dynamic in factory housings.. they’ve been ordered and on the way. Gonna replace hi/lo/fogs all with same setup. Will review when they arrive and are installed.

    They sell halogen, too?

Edit: or you meant LED that fit the H9/11 socket I assume. Wonder how the throw and cutoff will be in the Toyota projector housing

They work great. There’s an install video on the diode dynamics bulbs in the projector style housing on the Tacoma’s on YouTube. I think it’s by stage 3 motor sports. I had diode dynamics bulbs on my last vehicle and they’re very high quality and they stand behind their product. I think there’s a pretty lengthy thread on the forum comparing halogen/LED/HID in the projector housing and the outcome was that HID actually have the best improvement in output but I can’t stand the potential for flickering and color changing that I’ve experienced with HID kits in the past.

I run 2020 kustom OEM LED headlights with amber Rigid DSeries pod fogs. I like the contrast to make me more visible at dusk. The Spartan X lower grille and scoop LEDs lightup the backroads like daytime when needed

Hikari Ultra and Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 are the only recommended replacement LED headlights. The Hikaris will be a bit over the 6000k SS3s and the Morimotos will be a bit under it. You can see the performance comparisons in the 3rd Gen headlight thread.
