Headlights aren't shining very far

So my headlights won’t go very far at all as in low beams should I get led bulbs to get more length and will that fix it? They go maybe 50 feet at most. I have tried adjusting etc doesn’t help

your lights were properly adjusted at the factory. Now your lights are blinding others. No you don't need LED lights.

 

I swapped all my lights to led, low, high and fog lights. I bought them all from headlightrevolution.com they can get pricey though and you get what you pay for.

Most LEDs just increase foreground light and actually don't even project as far as stock. Best performance option for the 3rd Gen halogen assemblies so far is the Philips H9, as covered in post #2. You need to trim a plastic tab off the bulb for it to work. If looking for plug and play, Tungsram Xenon +120 or the Tungsram Megalight +130 are the highest performance bulbs tested. There is a lot of data in the thread to understand exactly what you are getting, and post #3 covers many LED options.

 

For the life of me I can't figure how Toyota has sold millions of Tacomas over the years as doesn't seem they can do anything right. Even something as simple as providing sufficient headlights.

 

Where can these be purchased? Powerbulbs.com seems to never have them in stock.

The 2nd Gen lights are excellent, you can see 2nd Gen vs 3rd Gen here. The 3rd Gen projector headlights are just not that performant with the stock bulbs, but a simple bulb change can do a lot. The 3rd Gen LED headlights are outstanding. Which is way better than say the F150 which has the worst ratting possible from IIHS for both their halogen and LED headlights, yet that doesn't seem to affect sales.

 

Are the 3rd gen led that harsh bluish hue?

I have a 17 and like the look of the new drl/turn sigs but it sounds like the h9 is the easiest path.

Isn’t it? Fred Meyer also stocks GE bulbs, so they likely have the new Tungsrams as well but don’t sell online.

This output chart from the linked thread may be helpful. The Philips H9s are the most effective upgrade for the halogen projector lights. Better results can be had by swapping to the OEM LED headlights as discussed in post #3 in the thread.

 

my headlights shine a good 12 inches

long story short: I can't drive at night with these headlights. Don't worry, I will upgrade to Morimoto XB LED Headlights next month

 

They’re definitely brighter and I believe I can see much farther. I think you’ll see a noticeable improvement and the bulb base mod was simple and quick. @crashnburn80 has done a ton of research and after reading his thread I’m extremely satisfied with the H9 bulbs. I feel much more comfortable driving at night now.
