Just wondering if anyone noticed on inside of headlights that what looks like the inner coating dripping down? washer my truck today and noticed when cleaning headlights a few streaks on right side after few moments of scrubbing I see that its on the inside of the lens.. Just wondering if this is "normal" for a truck with less then 4k miles on it to be doing this now? Did install HiD's few weeks ago from other car and never happened on that car. hiD's putting out to much heat? Just wondering if worth it to try and get dealer to replace them under war.

4000 miles and mine are not melting yet. But mine are stock.

Perhaps the hid bulbs you installed are too hot?:bananadead:

If the stock projectors are plastic then chances are the hids are melting them. That happened with a lot of projector style aftermarket lights since they are typically plastic

I had that problem, but I saw it on the first day I owned it. Showed it to the dealer, replaced the headlight under warranty

Yes.. I've noticed something. My headlights are stock, under 4000 miles, and this is on the drivers side. It's very hard to see in the picture, much easier to see in real life. It's definitely on the inside. A bit to the right of the amber lense, and about centered vertically. Looks like a smudge, but it's changed in appearance from when I first noticed it a couple months ago.

HID are probably melting the inside of the lenses. It's designed for halogen is it not? Not a warranty issue. You could swap the bulbs back and get new housings under warranty but out the HID back in and the same thing will happen.

I understand the OP's situation but he should just take some personal responsibility. He f'd it up, pay for it or don't get it fixed. I sure don't like paying more for stuff because stupid.

I may be wrong here, but if I remember back in the days when I ran HID's (not on my truck because running them is just plain ignorant on these halogen bowls for 2nd gens) I remember them actually being no hotter than halogen. Actually they felt cooler. I don't believe that should be an issue.

As for the OP, you are going to have to run your fingernail on the area in question to determine if it is interior or exterior of the housings. Toyota is not exactly the best when it comes to producing quality headlight housings. They tend to dull up quickly over the course of 3 or 4 years tops. Industrial fallout or even other cars on the road kicking up junk may also be part of the issue as well.

If the HIDs are 35w, they are running cooler than the factory halogens. That doesn't mean that the actual bulb or base didn't burn or gas out and deposit something inside the housing, but I seriously doubt the HID kit melted your housing.

I don't want to be an asshole/dick, but could you guys stop fucking with your lights? I shouldn't care, it's not my shit, but I do.

"I installed leds in my cab, and now everything flickers"

"I upgraded to hids and my truck shut down"

"I bought a kit, pressure washed my truck, truck won't start. So I did the same thing three more times and toyota is making me pay"

"I put some bulbs in and my truck melted"

Just stop. It's really tarded k.

I know right? Sometimes I read posts and I think "Hmmm, let's see how they can take a perfectly functional and reliable truck and mess it up by modding."

Except that this is a documented issue on some people's trucks with STOCK lights. Another member had one replaced under warranty since his was bone stock at the time.
