Headlights stopped turning off automatically?

Edit: Replacing the driver-side door sensor fixed the issue.

    Greetings,

My headlights stopped turning off automatically when I lock my truck with the remote. Previously I could leave the headlights in the on position, lock the truck, and the lights would turn off automatically. Come back to the truck the next morning and the lights turn back on when I start the truck.

Is there some switch that I'm unaware of that controls this? Or some fuse that has blown? Any pointers?

    Thanks!

    Hmmm...... just making a guess....

    Have you checked the fuses?
Is the stalk loose from the years of use?
    Battery condition?
    Any add-ons to the lighting?

Otherwise, I suspect the "timer" is buried inside the ECU or some module's program. So, probably out of your hands to alter.

They should turn off when the driver's door is opened unless there's some aftermarket alarm system tapped into them.

Have not had a chance to check fuses yet. Will do that when I get a chance to look at it.
I don't think the stalk is loose, but I've not even thought of that.
Battery is a year or two old. Should be in good condition.
    No add on lights.

    No after market alarm. Interesting.

Is this really a thing on our trucks? Usually vehicles with that feature will have an AUTO option on the light stalk. Mine just has OFF, DRL, Lowbeam, Highbeam.

Mine turn off as soon as the driver's door is opened if I leave the switch on, I believe it's in the owners manual under light auto turn off system.

Don't know if its a "thing". I do know my '06 will turn off the headlights a few seconds after the door is closed. Stalk has the basic 3 settings, Off, Parking, On.

Lights should turn off when the door is opened. Does your dome light come on when opening the door?

This. Off when the drivers side door is opened.

Note: I'm pretty sure that if you open the passenger door first the lights will stay on.

The truck doesn’t care about the drivers door.
I know someone that found out the “hard way”.
Also, mine turns off when you open the divers door.
It all in the link below

So does mine and I have the 3 basics that @Knute talked about. I leave parking on as DRLs constantly.

This..I wonder if the driver's side pin switch is sticking or worn.

@Tor9299 you mentioned they used to turn off when you lock with the remote. My truck is basic and has no power items. Did they used to turn off once you opened the door, regardless of whether or not you used the remote?

Mine is a 2010 single cab. Headlights and running lights always shut off once I turn off the truck and open the driver's door. I can't speak to passenger side as it's rare that someone else rides with me.

I remember on mine that the lights turn off after you turn off the engine and then open the door. If you turn on the headlights without the engine running, they won't turn off on their own.

    Yeah, on mine it’s

    Lights On engine running
Turn engine Off (lights still on)
Open door - Lights go Off.

Once you shut the engine off and the lights go off, the system is no longer active.

    For instance -
    Light On while running.
    Turn truck Off
Turn Lights Off - Auto Off Canceled.
    Turn Lights back On
Open Door - the lights will remain on.

I used to keep mine on all the time.
But I don’t anymore, I have a habit of turning them off now.
After driving my dad 1996 Ranger for a week, I kept the habit of turning stuff off.

Aha. My driver-side door ajar sensor is not working. (The passenger side Is working). I'll need to see if this is a sensor failure or if there is a fuse dedicated to the driver side.

Thanks for the point in the right direction.
