Headlights stuck on

Hello all, my 2004 tacoma had the headlights stick on a few days ago. Read on here that a bad headlight relay could be the culprit. I changed the relay, jumpstarted the truck, and the issue seemed to be fixed. I then left it for a few days over the weekend. Just tried to start it again today and it was dead. Jumpstarted it and the headlights are sticking on again. I tapped the headlight relay with a wrench (read to do that on here) and the headlights are now functioning properly. Any reason as to why a new relay would be getting stuck and require tapping? some underlying problem that would be causing this? Thank you all in advance.

Did you test the relay you removed for function?

It might be you have a more interesting problem.

Poor Quality Relay !! Electrical/ Mechanical parts quality can be so hit or miss.

The contacts might have been stuck.

Unless something is grounding the coil side of the relay that would close the headlight circuit.

 

Most everything on these trucks are ground switching. Check the wiring harnesses for any nics or wear points where it might rub against the body.
