Ok so I’m heading back to check this out now but has anyone experienced this...my truck has been parked for a few days. Keys are in my backpack. But my buddy just sent me a text that the lights are on and sent a pic so I know he’s not f’ing with me lol. I didn’t even think that could happen unless the key was in the ignition. Any ideas for me to check once I get home to it?

Truck doesn’t have Dtrl either fwiw.

    It could be this.

Something that I figured out with my 06 is that opening the door to turn off the lights is a 1 shot deal. If you open the door with the engine running, and then shut off the engine, the lights will stay on til the battery goes dead. You've already used your 1 shot and no amount of opening and closing the door will make them go out. You have to close the door and turn the truck on and off to get another shot.

Only thing is that it’s bewn sitting for 3 days. I’d imagine this would’ve happened sooner.
We did get some torrential rain here in MS/LA the past 2 days so I was thinking maybe something got wet somehow, but not sure how that could’ve happened.

Lights were off when I got home but now the guys are saying they’ve seen my truck with the lights on at least on one other occasion. I can’t say I’ve ever seen this gremlin posted about before.
Truck started up with no problem. But I wouldn’t mind getting to the bottom of this if it’s really a problem.

What an odd gremlin to deal with. I have no input but good luck getting it worked out. Maybe a failing relay or switch stalk thing.

Yea a relay would be about the most logical thing I could think of too.
They said it was on for about an hour today. And the one guys room faces the lot where I park and he’s seen them on at night too.
I guess I could start with a new relay. Inexpensive attempt to solve it.
But I’m also relying on someone seeing the lights on to know if it’s still happening or not. Or a failed battery eventually

Well I just drove it and when I parked and turned off the lights, sure enough, they stayed on for a few minutes. I popped the hood as I got out and the lights went off.
I tried messing with the door switch but nothing happened when I was depressing it the first dozen times(while they were still on). I tried smacking the turn signal/switch stalk a few times but that did nothing lol. I didn’t pay attention to the timing, but I almost feel like they went off when I popped the hood. Not sure how that’d be related other than maybe a loose wire somewhere.
This is going to be interesting.

Yep. The fog anytime mod and the HID retrofits. Definitely going to pull out the fog mod and see what happens.

There have been reports of the evap relay being used for the highbeam fog light mod. When the ecu does the evap check when the vehicle is off, the relay is energized and the lights turn on and eventually go off after the check.

It’s been so long I have to try and actually remember what I did lol. I believe it was just the jumper wire in the engine bay fuse box.
If it matters, I did try pushing the fog button a few times when I parked and the fogs were going on/off with no effect on the headlights.
I can’t remember where I tapped into for the lights under the hood. It was probably just a random power wire under the dash.
The only other wire I tapped in to was for the additional reverse lights in the bumper. I tapped into the trailer hitch wire in the kickpanel fuse box.

I drove it again and no problems with the headlights this time. They shut off as they normally should.
I still pulled out the anytime fog jumper. Wire was still in good shape. All the relays were still tight. I had the fog jumped to the towing taillight. Not sure how that’d effect the headlights so not confident that will solve it. Here’s how I had it rigged up....

It might be a failing HEAD relay...cheap fix.

Thanks!! I have no idea how to read that chart once it passes the relay, so I'll take your word for it:rofl:
My common sense tells me that whatever is failing must be something that allows a constant power to pass through it, when it would normally prevent it, since the ignition is turned off and the headlight switch is in the off position as well.
That's why I don't think it's anything downstream, like the foglight mod or HID's, or even the stalk switch for that matter. I'll order up a HEAD relay on Monday and go from there, but gladly still take more ideas from everyone.
Oh and checking anything w/ a multi meter would have to wait a month til I'm back home from my out of state work assignment. I didn't anticipate problems like this one so have very limited tools in the truck w/ me.
