not at all. like D said, plug n play. i did it to my 83 GTI and my 01 Taco. easy peasy. Hardest part is trying to figure out where you want to put the balasts.

ive got #1 in my truck with a PnP hid kit.

Total cost is about $160. $30 for the lights from fleabay, and $130 for the hid kit i got. Ive got no complaints except the lights are loose in the factory metal housing. You can see them move while driving at night..dosent bother me, but the people in front of me think im flashing them or something.

ive got a set of blue projectors i can sell ya..I had a cheapy set of bulbs in there, so they werent the brightest.

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.

Most inexpensive lights are Not DOT (Department of Transportation) approved. These are sold for off road or show use only, but many Ebay sellers will misslead you until you straight up ask if they are DOT approved.

Good quality street legal lights are DOT and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) approved.

In VA the headlight lense must have the DOT stamp to pass inspection.

Option one is a reflector housing. Options two and three have projectors. Unfortunately they use cheap fog light projectors that usually produce terrible output. The black housing on Option three has a projector so the reflector is not used. Alot of retrofitters paint the reflector black to avoid blinding reflections and interference with the cutoff. Of course they install quality projectors.

As you have determined option one is your best choice with a quality bulb it's output is probably pretty good. HID in a reflector housing is a different discussion.
