So basically a month or so back while trying to open/close my sunroof I kept hearing a loud popping noise. Finally realized after a few minutes that the rubber piece that helps it open/close was no longer correctly in place. Took it to my dealer and they fixed.

Fast forward to this week with the sunroof open and I see this out of the corner of my eye. Looks like somehow that when that piece wasn't in place it caused rubbing along the headliner.

I love my Tacoma and would like to get this issue fixed before it does a complete tear which eventually will w38791.jpg orsen.

What would you do in my situation? I am waiting for an appointment with the DPSM from my area.

    Thank you.

I wouldn't touch it. Only you will know it's there.

Hey Plain Jane i tend to agree just dont want something later on to cause it to tear and then i have the sinking headliner.

Maybe I just bring it to their attention and have Toyota document it.

Interested to hear what Toyota rep says. Praying that they don't say normal wear and tear.

I agree with PJT... don't open up a can of worms. If you want, just get a sharpie and lightly touch it up on the white part.

Frankly, the thought of them tearing out the interior to pull the headliner....or whatever they have to do to fix it does not sound appealing at all.....especially for something you can't even see unless you're looking down into the open moonroof.

I would get it documented asap for that exact reason. Even if you dont want them to fix it right now, you should have them acknowledge that the bad part caused this. In other words, make sure they document this as NOT normal wear and tear.

But they might not be able to "document and not fix". So, they might press you to fix it which means all of that headliner is coming out :(

I'm not sure I would do that.

I agree to everyone's thought as what Toyota would need to do to fix. This is my first Tacoma and it has been great. I just don't want it to worsen and one day go in my truck and the headliner comes down.

I guess I would at the very least make sure it isn't getting worse. The side is a little worn as well.

    Again thank you.

Since you had the dealer make the repair initially, it is documented that there was an issue with the moonroof. Should this area become a problem later down the road and out of warranty, there is a record of it. Take some pics with date/time stamp and let the dealer who did the moonroof work previously look at it. A good service writer will build a file in the computer with your VIN and can attach pics to that file.
Where I work, we have a G drive that all employees can access, and any pics the service writer or techs upload, all other techs can see those same pics.

Daddy-O you are correct the dealership service advisor is great. Will make sure it is documented perfectly should this be an issue later down the road. Still for shits and giggles would love to hear what Toyota rep says as my VIN is on the list for rear diff issue as well.

If its still under warranty I would bring the problem to the dealers attention and let them document it and decide to either repair or replace at their cost not yours.

Timkins42... purchased April 2016 with 12k miles on it so definitely under warranty and it helps that I already brought it in for faulty moonroof/sunroof part. Just dont want some Toyota rep saying wear and tear on a spot no one can come close to like say the carpet under our feet.
