I think I remember reading yesterday that on the earlier model Tacomas the rear window needs to come out to remove the headliner.

I just took mine out yesterday. On mine the rear window didn't have to come out. Only the rear cladding, sun visors and clips, rear view mirror, and the grab handles. There were two circular clips that pop out. This was on an extended cab.

For some reason it strikes me that it was the 95-97 that the rear window had to come out. But I could be way off base, just what I remember reading yesterday, I think.

On my 96 Tacoma it did not have to come out I just trimmed the headliner and it was OK and when I put it back in I just had to tuck in into the rear window seal
