So, to be your level of scientimific: cold air = gooder, ice crystals in fuel system = not good at all, cold fuel = not boomy enough

Let me assure you, that 15% LOP is insignificant to the 100% LOP when the engine cuts due to carb icing.

BTDT got the tee shirt. I wish the undershorts would come along with the shirt.

Refute at least one of my three points.
    1. cooler air is more dense and has more O2, thus it is more explosive and useful in combustion engines.
    2. airplanes operate in a very cold environment, and are prone to ice forming in their carburetors. Ice in the carb is an unwanted condition for combustion engines, thus some airplanes use carb heaters to keep this from happening.
    3. fuel's (diesel and gasoline) flashpoint/vaporization temp occurs at higher temps so warm fuel is ideal for combustion engines.

Please refute either of those three. Then you can have a paper trophy and I will not buy a CAI for my combustion engine.

Spoken like a true scientist. Haha. You can't argue yourself out of this one and now you're on your way to fallacy-ville. I guess I'll be a no-science-dumb-dumb and install my CAI.

How did this become two idiots arguing about carb ice? Just go EFI or get a turbine like a man and forget about that crap.

Idiots? This man said people who use cold air intakes don't know what they're doing. I did the right internet thing and crushed his soul. He didn't even know what a carb heater was for, he thought they were used to make intake air warm because it's better for engines (not for melting ice).

I think it’s because you responded to an obvious troll seriously. His ignorance was so deafening there wasn’t any point.

Humidity changes density altitude, which is what I thought was meant by how we measure air density

    Yeah.
I have a theory on this based on my own observations, and no inclination to put in any effort to validate it through scientific methods. My observation is that my truck runs best in temps around 70F, +/- 5F. Nice and peppy. As it gets hotter or colder than that, performance seems to drop a bit.

My theory is that the majority of the engine tuning occurs in a lab where temps are about 70F. So, the optimal performance is around that temp. Sure, they likely raise and lower the temp and do some tweaks, but most of the time spent is at a comfy temp for the engineers.

Also of note is that when the vaporized fuel is mixed in with the air, there is likely a bit of heat exchange going on, so extremely cold air would cool the fuel vapor a bit while extremely warm fuel may raise the temp of the air slightly. And then when the mixture is compressed, it would heat up a bit more. But at that point, you've got all the oxygen you are going to get.

But we here at TW all know that the bottom line in all of this is that the OEM intake on a Tacoma is already a cold-air intake, and any installed aftermarket kit is not going to improve on that. No science degree needed.
