You could call the police just to report it. If it’s just that bumper cap and nothing else messed up itshould be a super cheap fix. Just buy a bumper cap online and then have it color matched.

Call the cops. Have them take a statement from the valet. Have her arrested for hit and run. The cost of one bumper cover and painting can be enough cause.

    1. Figure out if it’s even worth it. I know our trucks are our babies but if it’ll come out with rubbing compound or a magic eraser, why not just let it go? (I also understand wanting to make someone dishonest pay for what they did)
    2. You’ll need to prove she did it to get anything to really happen, such as camera footage from the store if they have it.
    3. Report it to the police after you can prove it was who the valet says it was. In my area, if you reported this type ordeal to the cops, finding her would be very low on the priority list.

Edit: witness statement probably works too, haha

Honestly, that damage is probably not worth your time and effort to report. Yes, with an eye witness and positive vehicle identity, you could probably find the person and get some kind of restitution. But the headache of filing a police report, and then seeking payment from either the person and/or their insurance company, or your insurance company will be more trouble than just getting that piece of your bumper repainted by a body shop. It doesn't even look like there's any structural damage, is there? My trucks have suffered more damage in parking lot hit-and-runs over the years than I've ever had in a moving accident (to the tune of $2000-3000 in the last 5 years by my estimation). The only time I've filed a police report was when someone took off the entire bumper of my Tundra with a trailer. I filed a police report but it got me exactly $0 and took 2 hours of my time.

Yes, file police report with witness supplied info. Id file with insurance company and provide the witness info. Let the police and insurance company do their jobs to go after the *****.

They're not going to arrest someone over this type of incident. The driver would receive a moving violation though, so their insurance would pay for it and they would have something on their insurance record.

Just clean it up and touch up paint. Then one day get a steel bumper and don’t look back

Absolutely. She will lose her license for a few months, which should be enough time for her to find the value in not wrecking other peoples' property.

I probably would not turn this into insurance though, it looks pretty cheap to fix in relation to your deductible and premium hikes.

I’m sure that losing her license would vary state by state, but she should be penalized for just hitting someone’s vehicle and splitting. It shows how shitty the person is for sure.

Yes. Reporting to police will accomplish nothing.

You have to report it to the local magistrate who will then initiate an arrest warrant for them.

I wouldn’t mess with it until they find her and let her insurance cover it.

In principal she will likely never pull this again knowing people are holding her accountable.

Sorry, I thought it was black transfer paint. The only way this can go in your favor is filing a police report, and maybe in time going through her insurance after she receives a moving violation.

If you are thinking of finding her privately and going all parking lot vigilante on her ass, it’s probab not going to do you any good. If she’s the type of person to hit and run, she’s also the type of person to call the cops and say you’re harassing/stalking her.

Either file a police report and hope it works out, or let it go and deal with the scuff or have it repaired.

I also thought this thread was about exploding Tacos or something exciting like the poo in a burning bag ding-dong-ditch game, but ok...

She is going to tell the insurance company she didnt do it, then lawyers will have to go to court over it. I’d ask my insurance for recommendations on what to do, not the popcorn gallery here.

But if you do anything about turning her in, be sure to let us know! We’ll be waiting...

In Oregon, you could file an accident report which would get it on the record. The other driver would also have to file a report. If they don’t, guess who won’t be allowed to renew their drivers license or vehicle tags? Other than that, I’d just get it fixed and move on.
