Heat shield on cat

Cat I remove the heat shield that is on the cat. It’s rattling bad

 

Did u try tightening first?

 

it is better to keep it and see if you can get under there and reattach it somehow, or replace it


but you can take it off


it does two things
a) helps preventing brush fires
b) retains heat in the cat for maximum emissions cleaning efficiency

without it, just be aware driving or parking in the weeds, don't start a fire.

 

It's been a few years, but I remember mine doing this due to the shield clamp rusting thru. Slapped a new clamp on there and it was good (rattle free) as new.

 

Couple of hose clamps around both ends and it'll be rattle free for years.

Real men airhammer it off and say “spare parts” always gets full of rocks and becomes a rattlebox

 

Shield is for not melting the front driveshaft grease out of the u-joints so leave it on. Notice only one on is that drivers side one. Use a small hose clamp on one end around the exhaust pipe and put 2 new bolts and nuts on the other end as it came - easy to see once you pull it off.
