My truck has none, for a long time. The studs rusted off the body mounted ones, exhaust ones were removed because of rattling. Hose clamps didn't cut it anymore.

Could someone provide pictures of what exactly they're clamping down with hose clamps? I have the same issue when I hit bumps. Absolutely irritating. :help:

I used 1 1/4" washers for the two large long flat heat shields on my 12 Tacoma. Studs were fine, just shields tore in that area. And I used two hose clamps (stainless) on my my CAT Converter so it would stop rattling which it did. Easy fix for both. No pics, sorry....

See post #13 above. Crawl under your Tacoma and look up drivers side under the drivers seat area for an excellent view of the cat heat shield where one end clamps around the exhaust pipe with a hose clamp (big muffler clamp is overkill) and the other end uses 2 bolts/washers/nuts.

Sine the hardware gets cooked, it might be a good preventative measure to pull it, use some brake lube on the threads and replace the nuts with stainless. I guess you could use a nylocks, but the plastic would probably cook. Keep the shields, keep it serviceable, kill the rattle.

mine just fell off....eroded right around the nut heads..Now to see if the nuts will come off or not. That will determine if it goes back on or not.

Same thing happened to a few of mine. Those studs feel pretty weak when trying to loosen the rusted nuts. I heated them up for a few seconds with a propane torch and they came right off with no problem. Then I used a washer that was bigger than the hole that had eroded to secure the heat shield back up.

I just fixed me drivers side heat shield last week. It's been rattling for a long time and I'd had enough. Like others have mentioned, the holes thru the heat shield corroded and got larger than the nuts holding them in place.

I was only able to get one of the three nuts off.

Here's my fix. I useda large fender washer and put the nut back on the stud for the one I was able to get loose in the front. In the rear, I just used a short self-tapping sheet metal screw with a large fender washer and screwed thru the heat shield and the cab floor to secure it.

    No more rattle.

So, I appear to have the rattle coming from the 2 piece CC heat shield on my 08. I don't see any clamp on it at all. Is the clamp supposed to be at the forward and of the shield? I assume the heat shield should be clamped tight to the pipe at this point?

Any clarification appreciated before I go ahead and throw a hose clamp on there

    Cheers

My 07 hasn't had a heatshield since the frame recall was performed. I didn't find out they were missing for 2 years and my dealer didn't mention it. I haven't had any issues...yet!
I'll just keep it as is.

So for those that have had the studs broken, what is the part number and how do you access it to replace them. Have 1 shield that's held on by 1 stud and a fender washer cause the other 2 studs are missing. It's still able to rattle at times though. Would love to fix it.

    Thanks

Mine was rattling a few years ago. Yanked that bitch off and haven’t looked back. Although truth be told if I were routinely driving around in tall grass like in fields and whatnot I’d put them back on.
