Heated Mirrors Kit - Interest / Update Thread (pic heavy)

Ah yes. The mysterious "other thing" popping up again....

 

Not trying to be all Area 51 on this, but it's been a complicated project that has taken a lot of time and still doesn't have a firm completion date. A few hints that may or may not give it away.

- Will add a feature to the truck that currently is unavailable through Toyota
- When done will produce some major advantages for things such as; backing up trailers, pulling boats from launch ramps, rock crawling, wheeling. Especially for people with manual transmission
- Won't be available for people with 2wd
- Anticipated install time of 5 to 10 min

 

A lady friend drives the Rav and keeps asking about my (your) kit. She's moving back to town soon, and I'm looking at mirror options. Once she's here, I'll see if wiring exists or if she needs a harness and such.

We've had quite a bit of freezing fog lately, so my mirror kit is getting used frequently. That other issue though...

J/K about the delete part. The reality is that I want people to be stoked on this mod (and they will be). People have been cutting and splicing wires and adding switches to create this mod on their Tacos for years. The hard work that Jaimes has been putting into this to make it a simple plug and play is well beyond any effort I would have put in - even if I had his mad skills.

 

You had me at "Will add a feature..."

 

We just bought a new RAV4 and the previous one was a 2004. For both of them the heated mirrors came on when the rear window defrost button was pushed. Might be worth a check as she may have them and not even know it. Or if she doesn't it would be easy to use that circuit to trigger a relay that powers the heated mirrors.

Should have a few prototypes soon, I haven't said much because it may be a while until it is something that is ready to be offered. It may need some minor tweaks after being tested for some time in a few trucks.

Our 2007 RAV4 had the wiring in place. I ordered a pair of aftermarket heated mirrors thru etrailer.com, I believe. It was plug & play.
Mirrors not quite as solid as oem - some jiggle noticeable, especially on bumpy roads.

 

There's a good chance you're right and the wiring will already be ran up to the connectors in the doors.

Hey how much for just the 15 min left of steering wheel switch?
Or could you share the part number?

 

I don't really get any discounted rate so if you are looking for just a switch you would be better off to order it through Toyota. The part number on that is 84871-48030

 

Is this for the 15 min timer or 5 min timer?
Sorry for all the questions, dealer doesn't seem to know that info. I just want to double check before I order it.

Hey Jaimes I'm ready to order, i have the exact same truck as you. I want left of steering wheel, 15 mins and green. I will need the full kit. How much would this run me with Shipping. I'm in Toronto, Ontario

 

I was seriously thinking to order one of these kits this fall - which is saying a lot, since I normally would DIY anything along these lines to get the quality I like. 14Years a commercial truck technician with mad electrical skills, and I very much approve of the way you are building these kits Jaimes. Alas, the Tacoma met it's end in September, and the Tundra I replaced it with has heated mirrors. Just wanted to pass along the compliment.

How is your plug-n-play 2lo mod coming? LOL
