Anyone else's heaters take a seemingly long time to warm up? I have a 2014 and Its always been pretty sluggish for the heat to warm up, but I used to live in Texas so I didn't really pay much mind. I live in Oregon now and it would be nice for them to warm up before I got back home from a trip into town. My gf has a 2003 Carolla and it gets unbearably hot really quick.

Your thermostat is probably stuck open. It was -17F yesterday morning and my 2014 2.7L was warm in about 5 minutes of idling and 2 minutes of driving.

Mine heats up in a reasonable amount of time. Does your truck take a long time to reach operating temperature in general? If so the thermostat may be stuck open, which would cause your heater to not get hot.

Its cold outside, and especially if you leave your truck outside it just gets cold soaked and while you are freezing its really not taking much longer to warm up. I wait until my heat gauge goes up at least 1/4 then turn fan on to just below high and put cab air on recirculate to keep the cold air outside. Here in Boston it hasn't been above 20 for over a week, mainly in single digits. I just wish my steering wheel had a heater!!

Mine takes a few miles before it starts putting out any "real" hot heat.

    at 0 degrees F

I started mine up and let it idle for about 30 seconds and drove it about a mile and the guage moved, then put on recirc to get it warmer in side faster

with out recirc, it is pulling in that cold out side air

Dress properly and there isn't an issue

good call on the Recirculate. Mine takes a while to warm up also. What's a self-check for the Thermostat?

I would also like to know this. It’s below 10degrees in Michigan and it’s a real pain to heat the truck for 20 minutes to drive it for ten

This has been asked like 5 times in the last month.

The engine is going to take a while to get hot. You can put vents in the grille to get the engine to heat up faster. They basically blocks air into the engine bay.

You don’t want the recirculator on. The truck gets heat from the engine, not the inside of the cabin.

You will actually notice if you put the heat on the recirculate botton automatically shuts off. Just shut the fan off until the engine heats up a bit.

All the recirc does is take draw air through the heater core from inside the truck rather than using colder outside air. No part of your heat is fed directly off the engine.

That's not how the heater and recirc work. When recirc is turned off the truck pulls outside air (cold) through the heater core. When you turn on recirc, it circulates the air inside the cab (not as cold) through the heater core. That said, you probably won't notice a huge difference in how quickly the heater warms he truck using one method over the other.

    +1 on the thermostat thing.

It's also worth noting that your heat will kick in faster when you're driving. My '14 heats up in like 3 minutes while driving, much longer when not driving.

My 14 base 2.7 starts warming up in 1/2 mile. Even in cold weather. Another mile and I am getting heat.

One thing about recirc. If your windows start fogging over, turn recirc off.

That's what I thought...I know when you recirculate you can't defrost so I've always been under the impression it would warm faster if you didn't recirculate. The only time I recirculate is if the AC is running.

Yeah, could be a thermostat thing. Mine has just never warmed up fast though even brand new. I moved to DFW area in Texas and the first winter there it snowed, heater was always sluggish to the point I was going to install remote start just to get it warm so I didn't have a miserable drive to work.

Winters in Texas are just terrible, I'm not sure how you survived without an autostart and auxillary heater.
