I have the same issue with mine carrying a RTT. To me it's another design problem with the bars if you want to keep the Toyota plastic rails, the pressure/load points are to small on the bar. I've had to cut some steel strips to place between the bar and the rail to distribute the weight.

Yes, the factory caps are a definite weak point. These are always an option though: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/side-rail-cap-system-long-short-bed-in-stock.353742/

That's my plan anyway. I wanted the tailgate cap because the stock one is just so weak and has the same problem. I tore mine up carrying a long ladder one day and I see the combo deal with the side rails as killing two birds with one stone.

I made a redesign to these so that they would fit 2nd gen and 3rd gen.

The bars bolt to the cleat now, instead of using the "loop" through the cleat.

Looking at your heavy duty bars that fit in the tracks. You say the only factor limiting these weight wise are the tracks....you could make a bracket that would fit from the bar to the truck bed for support and solve that problem I would think. Just a thought...

The tracks have no bearing on the weight capacity of these.

    They hold a shit ton.

Anyone have pictures of this with a RTT? I already have the bars, but I'm trying to imagine the height it would give with a RTT in relation to the roofline of the cab.
