    These bars attach to the cleats, but only to hold them in position. All the weight is carried by the side rail of the bed.

    It's a real catch-22... it carries the weight with the side rail, which the stock plastic cap just fails under any real load. I replaced mine with the KB Voodoo bed-side reinforcements and tailgate reinforcements.

    I can't say I'm bothered by the "need" to upgrade to the KB Voodoo stuff. It's all top notch, it just sucks that the Taco came so ill prepared from the start.
