Heavy duty leaf springs with Icon add a leaf. Will it blend?

I just received my heavy duty springs for my 5 lug but after some reading, the reviews indicate that they might not quite be as beefy or as resilient to what I need.

I already had an ICON AAL kit from before I realized I needed completely new leafs anyways.

some people suggested adding some air bags but that’s just not quite feasible at this time.

so I guess my question is, if I stick the HD springs and AAL kit together, the AAL has some much shorter leafs that are smaller than the overload leaf. Is that OK to have a smaller leaf above the overload? I’d prefer to leave the overload leaf installed.

I've added a picture of the two together. Please let me know if you see any other compatibility issues before I spend all day trying to fit this in my truck.

Do it! Totally gonna work and be beefy as hell id imagine. Looks like the center bolts from the AAL will be long enough for the whole sitch, but make sure youve got enough ubolt length as well.

yes- you can insert the AAL between the overload the 3 existing springs. You can use whatever combo of the additional 3 leaves makes sense.

    Some unsolicited advice:
    1) Clamp the three existing springs together before removing the center pin. Space the clamps outside of the length of the AAL. The three spring will fan out, clamping will make it safer to remove the pin, and easier to rebuild the pack.
    2) Do not tighten the u-bolts completely to spec until you're happy with the springs. The u-bolts are single use, and if you torque to spec, the threads will yield, and they'll be un-reuseable. Instead, torque enough to set the truck down on the ground, and go for a short drive. I would imagine that you wont want all three additional springs. HD + AAL is going to be a stiff ride.
    3) Be mindful of your rear brake line.

Post some pics when your done. I am thinking about doing the same thing with my 6 lug, but not keeping the overload in. I have the icon aal's sitting in the garage, but am considering picking up some new general springs for them, instead of throwing the aal's on my current tired ones. I keep going back and forth, let us know how it works out.

Generally, when you install the 3 leaf AALs, you need to remove the overload. If you opt to keep the overload in, you're going to get way more lift than expected by .5-.75" more (or the physical height of the overload spring). That might not sound like a TON, but it is.

On the 5 lug it's a spring under, so the overall height of the pack is less problematic.

It's crazy to think I've put 40k+ miles on my reused ubolts and they haven't exploded yet
