On my WRX, I went with the "sharp tone" Hellas.

    Sounded pretty good.

So how TF you figure out which is the pos terminal and which is the neg terminal on the Hellas? Talk about annoying!

I just assumed the case was negative/ground and connected spade terminals to the positives.

Relay. You need to get power directly from the battery for these horns. Plus the OEM horn circuit will not provide enough juice to get the full effect from the Hella's.

You can use the OEM horn circuit (positive) to trip the relay for the Hella's. That's what I did.

Also have a PA speaker for my CB mounted in there. So I can cuss wayward Neanderthals out after I blast 'em with the horns....

Inteteresting. On all the TW threads including a bunch of YouTube, stuff everyone said there was plenty of electrical power to run these off the stock harness. Not sure the relay is needed.

I use the factory wire to trigger a relay. Left the factory harness in place and added a return wire plus the new supply wires.

Not needed but they do work better with than without. Since the whole point is to get more it doesn’t make much sense to throttle it with the stock wiring.

Can someone explain how to wire this with the relay? I’m up and running without the relay but I’ve got a db meter so wtf. I’ll do a test for us

Yup, better wiring means less resistance and higher voltage/more current. Many use 4 horns instead of 2.

    For a 4-pin relay:
Pin 30- fused source(battery or aux fuse panel)
Pin 87- out to horns wired in parallel with ground to either chassis or dedicated ground return to battery.
Pin 85- disconnect all stock horn wires and extend one back to here.
Pin 86- ground this to battery/chassis.

When you hit the horn the extended stock wire activates the relay and feeds the horns through the new wire harness.

    Soooo

did 6 tests with no relay 12 feet from the decibel meter. All readings were 90db. Hella claims 115db on their paperwork.

I tried for the life of me to understand and wire up @bagleboy drafted it for me but after three attempts I gave up.

@bagleboy talk to me like I’m Billy Madison and I may be able to try this again this am. Fwiw this is on my TRD OR so I in fact have two stock positive leads just hanging there now, if that matters.
    TIA

One positive gets extended back to the relay to trigger it(pin 85). Make sure you tape the unused horn wire as it still is hot whenever you blip the horn. Pin 86 gets grounded(chassis or battery -). A fused wire from Battery + to pin 30, a wire from pin 87 to one horn positive and on to the other, and ground all horns. It’s usually a misunderstanding so pics of what you did or think you did can often clear things up. I ran #12 wire and a 20A fuse(a bit overkill but also physically stronger).

It’s really not complicated but as with anything there’s a language and terminology you have to learn just as with all of the suspension/lift mods that are done. Until all of it registers it’s like listening to an adult in a peanuts movie.
