Hella Lights stopped working...troubleshooting??

    You're right.....looking at one of my pics I do see that little screw on the front right at the bottom! I'll be sure to check the bulbs if the relay ends up being ok.

    Yup....that's what I see....thanks! Now if it is the bulbs, can I replace with any similar 55w halogen? If they are bad, I should have Hella replace as they're only a couple months old.

    You can probably go on Amazon and get some replacement bulbs from hella or you could try contacting Hella, but you'd probably have to go through whoever you bought them from for a warranty claim. I think I'd just buy a good set of bulbs and have a spare floating around

    One more quick question. I didn't use the Hella wiring harness provided and I used a heavier gauge wire than the factory harness. Can I safely upgrade from 55w to 100w halogens in these Hella BM 500's?

    Yes I didn't use their teeny ass wiring kit either, I think you'd be ok, but I wouldn't run them for super long as you might start melting plastics

    Hmmmm.....I plan to use them mostly during the fall during hunting season up on forest roads. It get's dark here pretty early and I'd need to run them for hours at a time.

    I'd stick with 55w and just get another pair

    I'll swing by NAPA or Advanced Auto (no Auto Zone close by) on way home from work to see if they have a multi-meter to test the relay.

    If you're going through the troubled for replacing the bulbs you should go ahead and convert them to hid a 55w 5000k hid bulb would give you the same and more amount of light than those 100w and still burn cooler and you can have them on much longer. Just a thought. When mine burnt out after hitting a rock and shorting them I upgraded to hid what a difference.

    That's not true at all lol. HIDs are another $100 for a quality kit, then you have to seal the lights and drill out the backs and then you need to rewire for HIDS and find somewhere for the ballasts. I switched to LED lights just because HIDS were such a bitch

    to test the blubs, hotwire directly from the positive of the battery to lights persay, if they light up then definitely a relay or wiring.....if they don't...I think you know what to do next...

    Plus, retrofitting Hellas to hid is wasting so much light. Hella reflector bowls are not designed for HIDS so you're just scattering light all over the place and sending a little of it down in a spot pattern
