Hella Lights stopped working...troubleshooting??

That he should convert to HID. You can buy a pair of like Kragen red ring HIDS foe the price of an HID retro Hella kit and get way better light distribution. I've had 4 hella 500 and 2 hella 700 hid converted before and it was such a bitch aiming them because of how the light spread was. Then watching guys that spend the money on actual HID lights and how much more powerful their lights were, just made me realize it's not worth it.

Same thing with why people put HIDs into oem headlights, you're just throwing light everywhere, even if you aim them down, you're still blinding oncoming traffic.

Sorry I'm just super jaded against HIDS these days after spending so much time and effort and money on them and not being happy with the results. LED technology is much more advanced and affordable these days.

Ok....so the relay is good - I can hear it click and NAPA had a multimeter and I'm getting power out of the relay...check!

So I'm now home and I checked the bulbs and they look fine. And I checked all of the connections from the relay to the lights and they all look as good as the day I did them. And the grounds from the lights appear good as well.

So I'm losing power from the relay to the lights.......man I don't want to rewire all that again.

 

When you pull the bulbs, check power on the connections to the bulbs

 

How do I do that at home with no multimeter?

 

Oh...eh...you don't lol. Thought you had rented one. Uhm. I got nothing. Just retro some HIDs in there and call it a day

Most definitely. I guess I'd just check along the wiring for any breaks or kinks and check all connections

If I bought one.....do I just connect on probe to power and the other to ground? NAPA had one for $20

 

No idea to be honest. I've exhausted my supply of electrical information. I never got around to really learning how to use a meter. At this point I'd probably just rip out the wiring and re-run it, not to bad, just takes a little time

I only have 4 slip/crimp connecters between the housings and the relay.....and they were crimped with heat shrink connectors, then covered with heat shrink tubing, then covered with electrical tape....then covered with the plastic flexible tubing. I undid most of that to visually inspect each and they all appear fine.

Next step is to undo and redo......thus beer(s) o'clock!

Good project for tomorrow am!

 

I alway unwrap the tape and give each one a firm tug and wiggle, if they move around at all, I redo the connection

 

I believe I left enough slack to simply cut & reconnect everything......just can't understand how something went wrong when I did such a "professional and overkill" job with it all.....shit happens!

 

Yea I mean all it takes is one side of a connecter a little loose and you lose the circuit

 

Back to NAPA (only had 1 beer...lol) to pick up that multimeter!
